'04 FBR Rankings 05-10-12 Empty '04 FBR Rankings 05-10-12

Post by Guest 11/05/12, 11:18 am

Since I don't have enough controversy in my life...

'04 FBR Updated through 5/6/12. Rankings on the left include game data going back to 9/1/11. Rankings on the right are if I only use game data from 1/1/12 forward. The Points Deltas and Ranking Deltas for both set of rankings are calculated compared to the last published '04 rankings on 4/24/11.

Sorry, posting side-by-side is giving some issues with the resolution. This format should be a little bit easier to read, but it doesn't have the points and ranking deltas.

'04 FBR Rankings 05-10-12 Empty Re: '04 FBR Rankings 05-10-12

Gopher,

Please help me explain this FBR. I am assuming the rankings from 1/12 to current are not including games for teams playing up in age (only games played against same age teams). If that is the case then I am confused on the rankings. I have read post on how the points are done so that isn't the issue.

My confusion is the top 3 (SDL teams) and how they got their ranking. The reason is how did Solar get ranked #1 with a worse win/lose over Doyle & DTN? Plus DT beat Solar. DTN beat DT. Solar beat DTN. SoS is pretty much the same for these 3 teams since they are playing in the same bracket and all played each other. If you compare the W-L and go off that DT would be #1, DTN #2 & Solar #3 in that bracket.

How does RASE make #2 with no wins & 1 tie if your not taking into count their '03 games. How do you determine their SoS since they only played '03 teams in EAL?

If going off W-L just for the top 5 ranked teams and not knowing Juve SoS in DIAL (I am assuming they must have played other '04 teams at some point). It would look like this.
1-Juve
2-DT
3-DTN
4-Solar
5-RASE

Any insight would be appreciated.

By the way thanks for doing this for us '04 parents.

Here's the rub... you could make a logical argument for just about any order of these top 5 teams, and at the end of the day, does it really matter??? You know that any time a pair of these 5 teams play each other, you will likely be in for a competitive game.

Depending on where you place your emphasis, you can make different arguments...

If you weigh W-L record heavily over quality of opponents, then you come up with the order that you listed.

However, if you take into account a more balanced calculation that includes some measure of the strength of opponents and the margin of victory, you can end up with something different.

Currently, the teams with the top 6 SoS in FBR are as follows:

1) LP RASE
2) Sting Goodman
3) Solar Kennington
4) DT North Manchester Rosales
5) Juve Black
6) DT Doyle

The SoS for the top 4 teams are pretty close to each other, then a bit of a dropoff after #4.

Breaking out the opponents of the top 5, you will see why...

Solar Kennington (1-1-1):
0-1 v. DT Doyle (Tier1)
3-0 v. DT North Manchester Rosales (Tier 1)
0-0 v. Livepool RASE (Tier 1)

LP RASE: (0-0-1)
0-0 v. Solar Kennington (Tier 1)

DT Manchester Rosales: (1-1-1)
3-0 v. Sting Goodman (Tier 2)
4-2 v. DT Doyle (Tier 1)
0-3 v. Solar Kennignton (Tier 1)

Juve Black: (3-0)
3-2 v. LP Dalglish (Tier 2)
4-1 v. LP Dlaglish (Tier 2)
5-0 v. Lady Aztecs (Tier 3)

DT Doyle: (2-1-1)
1-0 v. Solar Kennington (Tier 1)
2-4 v. DT North Manchester Rosales (Tier 1)
3-3 v. LP Dalglish (Tier 2)
5-1 v. Saints AC (Tier 3)

Whose rankings are more correct? I don't know. Are either rankings blatantly wrong, or indefensible? Nope. Just a different viewpoint.

Would anyone be surprised if any of these teams tied or beat one another on any given day? Probably not.
