One Last Hope....
One Last Hope....
I like her and I know she is human like everyone else - but she is also a role model to a lot of little girls out there. It just seems like nothing is off limits any more!

This is exactly why I don't let my DD watch the Today Show!

Re: One Last Hope....
"Do as I say, not as I do". That's the message many on here present to their children. Dont drink, don't smoke, don't over-eat, don't cuss... but we're the adults and will do whatever we please. Trust me - a player like Hope Solo revealing that she's a slut and drinks too much isn't even news. If you're not telling your children from a very early age that athletes are usually only to be admired while they are engaged in their sport, you do your child a disservice. Look to the mirror for the person they'll most likely emulate; and then ask yourself if that's good enough.

Ever noticed how many parents can't wait to slip away to the local bars during out-of-town tournaments and then show up half drunk at the 8:00 am games the next day? Winks and innuendo abound about how crazy the previous night was, and parents actually convince themselves that their children are oblivious to it all. (Pause while I puke in my own mouth a little).

Amen! After Hope's stint on Dancing with the Stars - which I did not let my 10 yr old watch (she is also a keeper) I talked to my dd about it and told her to admire Hope's talent, skill and hard work. NOT who she is as a person...I think I have a great kid...sweet, kind and compassionate. I will never let anything be more important than that...certainly not competitive sports.

Do some Old Testament reading. Specifically Exodus 34:26

That's just is you have no idea who hope solo is as a person. You don't know her, your dd doesn't know here and she owes you guys nothing. She really hasn't done anything more that a ton of other college kids do all the time. So for those that would call her a slut, be careful because one day you DD leaves the house for college and out of mom and dads house into the real world and someone may be using that same description for your precious DD.

I wasn't saying Amen to calling her that, just that we should be our kids examples, not professional athletes. I agree she has the right to make her own choices in life.

In the article she said she sneaked a 'celebrity' into Olympic Village...took that person(article didn't say guy or girl)to her room, and then at some point later sneaked that person out. She says her 'Olympic secret'. So was advertising her one night stand.
Compared to the male javelin thrower who was 'active' with 3 partners a day, pretty mild... So I guess I need to keep my DD away from javelin throwers...

Re: One Last Hope....
Guilty as charged, Xara, but darn it! Now you've made me feel guilty for habitually raiding the kids' Girl Scout cookies after they've gone to bed.
Before wringing our hands too much over Hope (not to mention the EPL players my '01 follows and plasters all over her room), we probably serve our daughters better by considering the behavior of ourselves, our DDs' coaches, and other parents on the sideline to see if they live up to the standards we preach. In other words, I should probably be more concerned that I or one of them will teach my DD to be a total jack*ss than that Hope will lead my DD to underage drinking or promiscuity.
That's not to say that Hope isn't badly mis-managing her "brand", though, because it seems to me that her biggest fan-base is pre-teen and especially academy girls.
