The Nicest Complex? Empty The Nicest Complex?

Post by Slakemoth 25/07/12, 08:27 am

Was having a discussion last night with a friend, and we were talking about the "nicest" soccer field complex we had ever been to.... For us, hands down it was the Jack Allen Complex in Decatur Alabama. Beautiful field complex surrounded by dense trees. Unbelievable turf, great facilities, and even plenty of parking..... Pretty sweet set-up.

So where are some other "can't miss fields of dreams" in this country?

wouldn't say this is a complex but these college fields @ Wellesley College outside Boston are incredible. I had never seen grass like that in my life, it felt like you were walking on a cushioned synturf but it was real grass.

Can any complex be better than Moss Park???? It is surrounded by dense trees and liquor stores for the after game refreshments.

Very close in quality to Moss was the field LHGCL used to use on Church Rd. Balls that crossed the South touchline would disappear into a 30-ft. ravine.

Mesa Soccer Complex in Greenville, SC was very nice.

Very well kept fields. PHP nice? No, but pretty close.
Multiple concession stands, multiple bathroom facilites and all very clean.
Parking not an issue.

we played on some dirt fields in the dry river beds in monterray one summer, they were pretty good. The only problem was getting used to the dust that the kids kicked up when they ran, and the uneven nature of the beds, and some small boulders that had to be avoided.

Synthetic turf and soccer are two words that should not be mixed. Most players dislike or even hate synthetic turf.

Nice complex and they are talking about building a brand new one just like it. Only problem with the synthetic fields was that in May you could already smell the rubber getting hot enough to melt, I could only imagine what it will be like in August. Good luck with that one. Very nice people and well run though.

USYSA nationals were there a couple of years ago. Temperatures hit in the 100's. Those fields were hotter than that. Synthetic turf is great in the winter. Not so much at the end of July.

Field Marshalled last year at King Tut/PHP. They had to block off the turf fields. Could smell the rubber and see the heat convection waves in the air. At one time, the air temp right above one of the turf fields was 118.

The Nicest Complex? Empty Air Force Academy

Post by MaggieMaggie 27/07/12, 01:29 pm

Went to a tourney at the AFA a few years ago. Incredible fields. Lush grass. The grass is a little longer than we are used to which did lead to a slower game that required more skills and ball handling than just kick and run.

Yeah we were hoping for an "average" summer weekend with 89 degree temps to play in for Overland Park, but we will likely hit record highs instead. I guess we'll see first hand how well their field cooling system and players' bench evaporative cooling fans work. The travel experience should still be fun.
