yeah, I saw that yesterday... friggin insane! Can you imagine how that felt by the end of the race?
Really gonna date myself here.. but anyone remember the '76 Olympics when the Japanese gymnast broke his knee in a fall on the floor routine... He then continued, did the pommel horse without saying anything, and then the rings !! His dismount dislocated the already broken kneecap and tore ligaments... he couldn't continue after that, but the Japanese went on to beat the Soviets...

Nah, just a point of National pride. Little-known fact: prior to 1908, the tradition of the opening Olympic ceremony was for each nation to dip their flag when passing the hosting monarchy. The American flag-bearer that year was one Martin Sheridan, a discus thrower born in Ireland, who had little nice to say about the King. Afraid of what ol' Martin might do when it came his turn before the King, the Americans handed the flag off to another athlete, Ralph Rose. Just before his turn, another Irish-American, hammer thrower Matt McGrath whispered in Ralph's ear, "dip that flag and you'll be in hospital tonite."
The flag was not dipped and it of course caused an international incident. During a news conference, Sheridan on behalf of the entire team, pointed at the American flag and said, "This flag dips to no earthly king."
Since that day in 1908, the American flag has never been intentionally dipped to anyone or anything. In fact, the United States Flag Code was officially changed to reflect that stance.

Can't decide which would be worse pain every step, or having to forget what's about to happen.
Here's a couple on Shun Fujimoto.

Yep, and the FIFA/Blatter boos disabused me of my prejudice that Wembley was full of "quadrennial USWNT soccer fans". At least they are paying enough attention to know about Blatter and FIFA problems. Another sign that soccer is growing in this country - we are sophisticated enough to criticize the governing body.
I would wager most of the bodies in that stadium were locals. They are very aware of the Blatter.
