Definitely hope they go to bigger fields... 16 kids on those tiny fields is not optimal.
In fact, that's one area the CFBSA league can improve as well... the Cox fields are FAR too small for 8v8 (in my opinion).
Actually - not to change subjects of this post - but one other opportunity for CFBSA is to shift all the Academy Cox fields a bit towards the school so the players can avoid that wicked drop in the far corner of the field closest to the street. Those that have played on the first field at Cox know the corner I speak of! It does, however, make for some interesting corner kicks as the girl taking the corner gets to kick it on a backwards roll! Ha! Kidding. Sort of.

I like the smaller fields at COX, it keeps the faster, more athletic teams from just kicking the ball up front and letting the fast forwards just run after it, distribution is more important .

I am in no way a soccer expert, but have watch enough games on small and big fields and I have observed the following:
- Teams that Kick It and let a fast forward run after it happens no matter the size of the field
- Teams that like to spread the field and pass the ball around usually are able to do that better (and be more effective with it) on bigger fields
- If on a smaller field you should reduce the number of players (Ex: 7v7 on the small fields that PT uses in Carrollton for tournaments makes for very congested play - IMO)
just my 2 cents...

logansdaddy wrote:The fields at cox are TOO BIG even for 8v8! The smaller the better. It only makes for better skills in the long run. Big fields = kick n run soccer, which is not conducive to growth. Small game, lots of touches, having move to space grows the skills. Just an old man's opinion. Big fields only enhance bad behaviors and showcase girls that run faster. 7-8 year olds will GET speed in due time. :-)
We are not using Cox, that is Farmer's Branch
