One thing with any big tournament weekend(holiday) that the number of refs per games is low. The academy ages will suffer because the refs get paid more for the older kids.
Honestly it has nothing to do with pay. Would you put a grade 6 or 7 on a u9 game when you have a u18 game to fill? Would you have a blue-badge center the U18 game for the trade-off?
The lack of refs has something to do with pay, but a lot to do with having to manage the sidelines (coaches and parents). It's just not worth it for a lot of them to put up with. The kids are learning to ref, just like the u9's are learning to play. Adult refs, well that's a different story.

So is Rosales' top team not playing? Or will some of them be playing on United?
It's more United players with some Manchester players to help. Manchester nor United had enough players to field a team with just their players due to the holidays.
The LP RASE 05Gs and this DT team had two awesome games... in the end, aggregate score was even at 3-3 with DT taking the bracket game 2-1 and RASE 05 taking the finals by the same score. Great, fun to watch, soccer played by both teams. The DT parents also seemed like a great group... lots of friendly discussions during and after the game. Deucee's Daddy would have been proud! ;-)
I agree it was a fun weekend and your '05 RASE girls are impressive. I think I saw some '04 LP girls helping was that the case?
No. The 04s you thought you saw are 05s that play on Keegan. It's a pure 05 team from what I understand.

The refs used in the PT tournament are the same ones used in NTSSA leagues and tournaments. Referees are independent contractors certified through USSF. The assignors are also certified independently of any association, league or tournament provider and assign the referees from the same pool of officials whether the tournament or league is sanctioned by USYSA (NTSSA is under this), US Club Soccer, or AYSO. As you can see here https://www.txsoccer.net/t13438-nov-dec-2012-tournaments-for-03-s-complete-list-with-teams there were 7 tournaments taking place in the metroplex with two others near by in Plano and McKinney. Assignors out there do their best on tournament weekends to get all games covered with referees qualified by the Laws of the Game.soccerman771 wrote:FriscoSoccer05 wrote:Us Club
There's your answer on the refs.
As others have stated, assignors are going to put the more experienced older refs on the U11-U19 games, regardless of pay because the Laws of the Game do not allow them to put a 14 year old on a U18 field and so forth. On a weekend with 7 tournaments going on, when the assignors get around to the U10 and younger divisions they are left with the young inexperienced refs. Even if tournament/league providers decided to pay refs more for U7-U10 games than U11-U19 games (which makes no logical sense) assignors would not be able to do it because they would not have old enough eligible refs left to cover the U11-U19 games. That and tournaments would not get enough teams to even register to have a division make at U9 with roster sizes of 12 if they were charging $500-$700 like the U11-U19 tournaments charge.
I would imagine it is every tournament providers dream to have older experienced referees as it would probably make their jobs easier and business better. Unfortunately, it is obvious that there is a major shortage of experienced adult soccer referees in the metroplex. Someone said it above that this can probably be attributed to the abuse these young officials take from coaches and parents and end up quitting the referee craft before they ever get experienced and comfortable. It is an unfortunate situation and one that probably doesnt have a quick solution if any solution exists at all.

My point (that you helped me with admittedly) is that NTSSA games and tournaments get priority over non-NTSSA tourneys in pecking order for assignors and referees.

Since when do they allow refs in this forum? I thought it was for outspoken amateurs
