Anyone familiar with soccer in Houston area? Empty Anyone familiar with soccer in Houston area?

Post by txtransplant 28/12/12, 09:01 am

There is a strong possibility we will be relocated to Houston this summer so I'm trying to get a grasp on how things are run down there. I've come across a South Texas soccer forum, but it appears to be a free for all in it. (Saw requests posted for players in over 30 leagues. lol) Is there another board that my google-fu is missing?

Also I've looked up a couple Houston club teams I know of and it appears whatever seasonal league they play in doesn't utilize gotsoccer. Can anybody give me apples to apples info? Like Lake Highlands league is comparable to _______ and Plano and Arlington are comparable to ______.

Any help would be appreciated. Smile

ETA: I should probably include that the DD is U12.

Here is a link to some explanation of the tiers of play in the Houston area. I believe Albion is one of the largest clubs and then there is Houston Express. I am not really sure about others. We have noticed that the level of play is not quite the same as North Texas but is making some strides.

Challenge Soccer Club is ECNL, along with TX Rush and Albion.

Different system than North Texas. Club rather than team based for the most part. Lots of teams from Houston play in Dallas, Austin, San Antonio and Houston tourneys. You can watch GotSoccer and tournament webpages to get an idea of who plays against the teams you know, how they do, etc. In South Texas, U12 is still small-sided games @ 8v8, but at U13 they will be in first year of 11v11, unless the team played up. U13 is qualifying year for EDDOA and still Jr ECNL, so you may want to do some scouting during the playing season to get a better idea of some of the clubs you might want to look at. If you can, you may want to try to catch a tourney or 2 in Houston during the year to see how some of the teams measure against your DD's style of play and your DD's goals. Good luck!
