D3: Pick Top 5
Texans were injured and snake biten all last Fall. They're finally healthy and showed what they are capable of last week. Win a game or two and they're in the thick of it.
Sting W has injuries, but well coached and good talent. Interested to see how they do against their old nemesis - Solar G - in a key game next week. A win there really shakes things up.
Flash have key injuries. This team has speed and skill-- surprised they didn't do better last fall. team could be dangerous if they get on a run and gain some confidence.
Sting F is most improved team team from a year ago and maybe most underrated. It's starting to attack and challenge defenses. Had some bad breaks last fall, but definitely control their own destiny this spring.
Defeeters: Solid overall, won a lot of close games last Fall that could've gone either way. Can they stay consistent? They were definately more aggressive offensively last week.
Solar G: Great offensive club, but showed some defensive weaknesses last week and Fall. One thing is for sure, if you pack the box, play for a tie, they will beat you handily.
Meja North: Tough, physical club. Beat you up, wear you down and does not give up cheap points. You have to pay for each one score.
Mustangs: Tough, physical, a lot like Meja North, but has more speed. Very tough 4 games in a row in middle of schedule.
Galaxy/Solar W: Saw them lose games last year but never saw any quit in any of them, which is a testament to their young ladies and parents. Take either team lightly and not bring your A game, they will beat you and spoil your chance for a top 5 finish.

Meja United/Flash- congrats on a convincing win! Gala what? Underdog bit a potential top 5 candidate... Flash has Feet next week.
Sting F/Meja-- not underrated anymore! 7 in 2 games. Most scored on Meja this season. Meja gets Solar next week.
Feet/DT-- Feet are a good bunch, but what happened here? A convincing win or no? DT trip to top 5 goes thru Sting F next week.
Solar G/Sting W: Thought there would be more pts from both sides in this one. W has played the top 2 twice and still in top 5.

Re: D3: Pick Top 5
Slapping my forehead too! I know there were some injuries to key players in the fall (especially GKs), but I wonder if some teams aren't swimming in injuries or starting to heal...my questions and answers coming out of the games this week.
Answer #1: Sting F seems to be putting it together.
A #2: Congrats to Meja G for the win!
A #3: Feet and Solar G stay on top...watch out for midweek trap games looking ahead to Saturday clash. (Solar gets a frustrated Meja, a classic trap, Feet has Flash).
Q #1 and #2: DT and and Meja look bi-polar...which teams will show up? Both capable of making noise...
Q #3: What is up with Flash? Are they injured?
West and Mustangs play Saturday...that game is big for both.
Solar W has the two Sting teams-ouch!
Solar G and Feet play Saturday. Depending on Wednesday, could be huge.

It looks like most of the teams are suffering from injures. How teams survive track season may be the biggest difference maker this season.
Answer #1: Sting F seems to be putting it together.
It has been a process but Coach Bruno's vast experience has been instrumental in the teams success. Having the opportunity to play for him has been a blessing to my daughter's development.
A #2: Congrats to Meja G for the win!
Not just a win but a convincing win. Well done!

SG vs. a frustrated Meja=an overly aggressive Meja. After the play our goalie was attacked by a Meja forward which resulted in the Meja player receiving a yellow card and our goalie getting a sprained ankle.
Q #1 and #2: DT and and Meja look bi-polar...which teams will show up? Both capable of making noise...
DT results-Flash is missing players and just looks lost. Feet is a good team, no surprise there.
Meja results- They seemed to be missing players against SF(only 3 on the bench).
Q #3: What is up with Flash? Are they injured?

They tied in the fall so the winner would get the tiebreaker. That could be HUGE.
Solar W has the two Sting teams-ouch!
SW only lost 2-1 to SW and tied 0-0 w/ SF. Similar results would not surpise me.
Solar G and Feet play Saturday. Depending on Wednesday, could be huge.

Good for you guys at Sting F. The changes that team has undergone seem vast, and I personally think you guys are heading in the right direction. Injuries are certainly going to play a role. I hate to see teams no able to put their best product on the field, and I recognize that hardly anyone can. The silver lining is that is definitely does make coaches develop the "other" players on a roster...I just hate to see it change a team's trajectory, and so I hate to see dirty play. I condone playing hard for sure, but the late tackles are ridiculous. I appreciate good refs more and more as I watch the collisions. I didn't recognize it as a player, but as a dad...man I hate the recklessness.

#1-I try to never slap myself intentionally...
#2-I swear I heard music playing in background & a tear came to my eye during the above Bruno testimonial... kidding aside, he has done a great job with that team in a short time. SG has also dominated with that team at each level over the past few yrs also..
#3-Injuries/fatigue from school sports are huge, but it affect all teams w 7th-8th graders, it come shown to "luck" and who manages the process better.
#4-Assuming both teams last fall performance continues (barring major meltdowns by either team), a Feet win almost secures it the #1 spot. A close SG win (a big shutout does) does not give it the top spot. SG will need help (perhaps a Bruno win over Feet) AND it needs to beat that same Bruno Team.
#5-Meja: Not seeing the yellow card play, some collisions are two kids going hard, so I would like to see "attacked" better defined...M is a talented team, so it's disappointing to see and hear about these tactics so often... They can win w/o these altercations.

LOL...I heard the music too, and I will pass along the compliment about SGs success. It all truth, I saw significant improvement in Sting F when SG played them in fall. Consistency is going to determine SFs level.
While I guess it is our nature to always look at the way the schedule lays out, I truly look at the Meja game Wednesday as far more important to where SG wants to go than the Feet game, and I personally think it is a trap game. A win for SG puts some distance between them and 3-7, a loss draws 2-7 close. Meja is quick and talented, and they will come out and give their best shot no doubt. I could see them going on a run in the spring and making it tough week in and week out. SG created a ton of chances but couldn't put them away last time...everyone was nervous in a 0-0 game...
The Feet game would merely icing on the cake due to all the tie breaker scenarios...I am not sure how SG beats them badly unless half that team goes on an early mission trip for Spring Break.
IMO, Feet were/are the best team in D3, but I would love to see them in some dog fights! Also, my comment about physical play was NOT about Meja, I didn't see the yellow card play, nor have I seen them in that way at all. What I saw in them was a patient team that waited back and then counter attacked with ferocity. Against SG, they weren't overly physical, they just didn't capitalize on their chances.

I don't see Meja as a trap game, I see each and very meja game as a bring your sack lunch and ice pack game; as far as my comments earlier, I was refering to Meja... in the few games, that I saw parts of, last fall... their sideline commentary and style of play... concerned me. I wish could've seen their last game to see what happened to them.
As far as the Feet go, they've been in their share of dogfights--can't go through D2, get relegated--and not have been in more than a few dog fights. It was always a battle going against them in D2. Parents are saying that new coach is a rock star as well. Someone said she played for the women's national team-- anyone confirm that?
Loses AND ties are going to hurt when chasing the top spot, but according to InB, the top 5 going to be be seeing each other again next year!

Oh mighty crystal ball reader, I might agree with #1, #2 I think if they aren't #1 SG will be #2. I'm not ready to give any team #3, 4 or 5 as yet. As you stated we are only a couple of games in and some of these teams meet this weekend. Still too soon to tell. After this weekend, things will be much clearer (or so my crystal ball tells me).

Sorry, I should have clarified. I meant in D3! I certainly respect them as a seasoned team, and the results they have posted in recent tournaments speaks for them as well.

I hate to be a critic, but these are not "D3: Pick Top 5" predictions! The weatherman calls for sunshine, unless it rains...thanks that was helpful channel 5... There are no hedging your bets in predicting U13 soccer! You have to believe...You can't be scared, the worst that can happen is that you may be ridiculed merceslessly in front of your peers, so get those crystal balls out (pun intended) and call the shot... Besides, if there are "injuries or other unforeseen changes with regard to health, roster, or school function or faulty alarm clock", we can figure that into our calculated, long term predictions next week... Remember, there is no crying in soccer... unless, of course, your daughter's team loses a game, gets hit in the face with the ball on a cold day, or doesn't play for Bruno, which is TOTALLY ACCEPTABLE.
MidDad: While I recognize (and enjoyed) the the need for the Legal Disclaimer, you didn't even settle on a top 5; can't have 6 teams in 5 spots moving up. You may have to extrapolate the tie breaker to calculate your 5th spot...
InaB: At least MidDad had 5 spots, you had.."might agree" on the top 2 spots, without an order...there are not any wrong predictions, just wrong people!
Dad3: Lastly, you just put your money on the top spot. 1 out five. Incomplete.

No need to clarify, and certainly no disrespect was shown! I guess I need to check their tournament results, but I don't think the feet walked over anyone last fall. I did see, last fall, where they had to score very late to tie game vs. Sting W after Sting scored early; the contest against Meja was very entertaining. Judging from the Sting F and SG scores, I assume those were probably close games as well. I just think it was cool the team stayed together after being relegated, regrouped upon losing their coach after 3 games and not only rallying around the new one, but judging from the 1st two games' results, getting better. SG just crushes everyone they've played over past 3 years, how exciting is that? lol.

I left the fifth spot a tie, it is too early to tell. However, I haven't seen a semblance of a prediction beside mine, and to a degree InaB's. Considering the topic of this thread. Care to offer a top five prediction? Despite the fear merciless ridule, it will be okay you are among friends.Packrabbit wrote:Pre-dic-tion: Noun. A thing predicted; A forecast. I wasn't aware of Feet's issues fully...I knew that they beat SG 1-0 on a goal off a corner kick in the last minute, so add that game to the list of "dogfights" BUT they definitely earned it. Also, that game was in about 100 degree heat...They were certainly the better team.
As far as the excitement of SG-I guess it depends on which sideline you stalk, and I haven't watched SG for quite 3 years, but the sledding has def gotten tougher.
As for my picks...it will be MUCH easier to pick AFTER games tonight. I will cheat and post after Meja tonight...

Ah rabbit, no feelings hurt here. However, looking at the original posting title it asked us to pick the top five which is not exactly asking us to "predict" them but to give our opinion. (Don't you love semantics?) So therefore, in my opinion (ahem) Feet and SG are the top two, their order is still up in the air. I don't see anyone else pushing these two teams out of the top two. Now back to the next three. This slope is a little slippery and loosey goosey at this point. Today's games as well as this weekend's will give us a better picture of how these teams line up.

I also would like to echo the response InaB gave, no hurt feeling here. I rather enjoy the friendly banter. I can appreciate Packrabbit's disclaimer. I may borrow(steal) it from time to time.
I should clarify, I was offering the spring season's final results. BTW they're brass=)

Re: D3: Pick Top 5
Feet/SG:
-a Feet win widens lead to 6 pts with 4 games left, with Feet owning all tie breakers. Only SG running the table, with Feet multiple losses only chance.
-a tie or SG loss just exposes SG to the possibilty of 3rd. A tie would present a "perfect" SF with an outside opportunity to finish 1st, if they can finish.
-a SG win makes the battle among others for 3rd place, but needs help from another team (SF?) to secure 1st.
SG-still hasn't shown it can lose 2 games in a 1/2 season.
SF- the big wild card.
- Has two winnable games coming to make it close, even possibly move into 2nd, but still has to play Feet, SG, SW, Mustangs to finish season.
- even a win over SG does not assure it a 2nd place finish; still need SG losses.
SW- has better end of schedule. I see them easily picking up 13 pts in last 7 matches.
The battle for 3rd will come down to the winner of The Sting Bowl on 3/24/13.
Mustangs finish 5th.

Re: D3: Pick Top 5
2. Sting F- BRUNO, enough said... or not! They do have some talented players and the offense seems to be working things out.
3. Solar G- Look a little tired or maybe a better description would be uninspired at the last game. Not trying to pass but rather just kicking and chipping at the ball. Who knows, they may find their groove again but if not I predict more ties plus a few losses.
4. Sting W- Fast and small- Play possession soccer but knocked off the ball often. Fun to watch them tangle the feet of larger players!
5. Mustangs- VERY physical play (like Meja). So far they have a little less direction from the sideline. Where is coach #2??
Truly, it is a crap shoot- each team above and below still produce inconsistent results. Everything could still flip.
