Solar facility? Empty Solar facility?

Post by dirknowitzki 15/04/13, 09:42 am

Somebody mentioned that Solar was finally going to break ground on a facility? Is that true? Does anyone know where exactly if true?

Heard they have a prime piece of real (sic) estate in Fantasyland, wedged right in between Tommorrowland and Never-Never-Land.

Disclaimer... I have nothing against Solar and know nothing of their plans. Just trying to make a little humor on a Monday morning.

Solar facility? Empty Re: Solar facility?

I know from my time over with Solar, this training facility was occasionaly discussed. There was some land secured off 121 and Josey and they were getting ready to start work on it. I remember before my 01 went select, debating logistically with my wife how the move from the Prince of Peace church to this place off 121 and Josey would change drive time to practice.

Also found this info from the Solar Site:

As of February 2010, the Solar leadership team is aggressively pursuing a long term (5-10 years) agreement for a dedicated Solar training facility consistent with the primary locations of the Dallas Solar teams. Once these facilities are secured, the locations and effective dates will be announced here.

Over 3 years of aggressive pursuit - they must be tired!

Doesn't the issue come from their director/treasurer stealing a lot (like a million) of their money that was supposed to go to the new facility. I think this was about 3 years ago.

My understanding is the club is in financial dire straits so it's highly doubtful they vould even be in a position to generate the required capital to even consider developing a facility.
Wasn't it just a month or so ago that these boards were full of complaints about Solar coaches not getting paid?

JK's teams must be looking pretty good for this old topic to be dragged out again.

Solar can't even afford to update their website any more frequently than once every 3 years. What indicators make you believe that they can afford to construct and manage a new practice facility?

Our bb plays for solar, and we haven't heard a thing about it. And even if true, it likely wouldn't change much for most of the solar teams. We practice on great fields that are local to our team. And we've got coaches we're very happy with.

A facility sounds nice, but it comes with a ton of overhead that the parents are then asked to subsidize through increased dues, fundraisers (blah!), mark-ups on new uniforms, and tournaments where you play a bunch of teams from your own club.

And, like ".com" naming rights for a stadium, acquiring a permanent facility (or signing a long-term lease) seems to mark NTX clubs for death.

The families/coach are the most important, but you need to realize the majority of clubs know the key to longevity is facility-based. Your club's overhead now is for funding the future purchase of a facility. With many cities not allowing for-profits to use their fields and clubs contracting/monopolizing fields - permanent/owned or long-term leasing keeps the blood flowing and now bleeding out.

And which team besides the Texans have their own OWNED facility? Leasing church property or the Y isn't owning a field.

Better check that - the Texans don't own their facility. No idea on the number of clubs nor facilities but Liverpool and FC Dallas are probably the only ones that would fit the 'owned' category (and, I believe the club and facilities are separate entities). Texans, Andro, Liverpool, Solar, DFeeters are long-term lease clubs so they'd fit my above prior post. Solar had a great situation with Prince of Peace but, as with every law that's subject to it's own interpretation, they were 'legalesed' out of their place. The new stadium is pretty nice though. Andro and Solar were both subjected to single individuals who mortally wounded them - takes a while to recover from that.

FCD does not "own" the facilities the city of Frisco does and they have a long term I believe free lease. The other places they use are also leased. LP may own some of the places they use though ownership may be under a different entity.
