My DD is an 02--Having gone through this last year, I can honestly say:

1. If you are a top seed don't assume it will be an easy weekend. The lower ranked teams bring it and regardless if they stack their defense or not (which unfortunately they do), the scores are unexpectedly pretty narrow.
2. There is ALWAYS a MAJOR upset. Who will it be? Ya'll will all have to wait and see, but trust me, it will happen.
3. The top 10 seed spots, historically, almost always claim their D1 spots in the first weekend.

All you have to do is win your bracket. Also, the pressure is outrageous. Our first game in QT last year was a nightmare even though we were slated to win without worry (we played a team ranked 45+ spots below us). Keep your girls calm and let the coaches do their jobs. The less pressure you put on them and the more relaxed they are, the better they will do and the better your team will do as a whole. Yeah, yeah....I know it's hard. But I'm speaking from experience!!

So true BC. Sometimes the parents work these kids up to where they are so nervous and afraid to play soccer. Heck last week there were coaches and parents telling kids that how they played in the Tut will determine whether they make LH's or not. Those teams looked horrible from what I saw and after hearing the pressure that was put on the kids it didn't shock me at all. Instead of looking to make plays they were looking to not make a mistake.

I agree, there always seems to be an upset or two each year (eventually though the team that should make DI almost always does, whether week one or week two). The interesting thing to watch is how many #3's upset #2's in that first game. That game right there generally is a good predictor if it's going to come down to the last game to see who advances or not. I'm sure there are plenty of 1 seeds pulling hard for that 3 seed come Thursday and Friday night Smile

Who has seen LP Barnes play? What do they bring to table that will help them to make D1?

Good athletes, hard working, not afraid to mix it up. For me they are a good match up for Sting West in that pool. I'd say those two teams could play 10 times and I would imagine it would end up split right down the middle.

One of the more intriguing 1/2 matchups.

Can you elaborate on what you are wanting me to elaborate on? Do you want a full scouting report on both teams Smile

Or do you just want to know why I think it's an intriguing matchup?

Agree, I like that match up as well - The top 5 teams are pretty much a lock, after that, I think G-M brackets could very easily go either way with the 1 or 2 seed... The only 3 seed I see with a legit shot to upset and win a bracket would be Odyssey in G.

I predict more upsets than usual this year.

Yep, they were Polaris and about a year ago they were right there on that 8-12 rank almost every week. I know they had some tough games with Sting West in the past. They kind of fell off the radar about 10 months ago and went through some growing pains but have recovered nicely. Now they are LP Barnes as of a few months ago I believe.

With this age group nothing ever seems to play out like it should. I see all the Top 10 qualifiying but for some reason I think a few of them will have to go to week 2 this year in order to do so. All it takes is to give up one goal at the wrong time and you go from being in control to in full fledge panic mode. I don't expect any of the top seeds to struggle in their first games but some of the 1/2 matchups could make for a fun Sunday assuming there are no upsets in the 2/3 matchups.

DTS vs Suarez - Since Suarez was never impressed with the North teams they ended up getting a south team. DTS speed on defense should negate the Suarez speed but all it takes is one slip or stumble and you are beat.
LP Elite vs Cosmos - Cosmos added some good players at signing and have a few extra playmakers now so they could make things interesting.
FCD Prem vs Sting Sanchez - Premier should walk through this pool but I've seen Sanchez play teams tough in the past (generally coming up short) but if it's close late in the game it could be interesting.
LP Rush vs Sting Goodman - Let's get ready to rumble!!!

Can't say that I really think LH's did all that great of a job this year seeding teams. If they don't already, they need to start watching teams priot to the Tut and Puma cup.

For week 1 upsets....
FWFC Black over Sting Hilton (Bracket J)
Fever Black over Mutiny (Bracket M), Fever physical play and strong central player puts this one away
Also think this makes week 2 schedule tough for Mutiny and they end up qualifying in D3.

lol, dts will win probably 4-0 4-1, not even close, suarez won't even know what hit them, now that being said, they have a decent chance week 2....

I agree DTS should win this thing going away, the only other time Suarez faced one of the Top 3 (at least my top 3 SRSA, DTS, & LP Elite) they were beat fairly easily, however like someone else said, when the pressure gets cranked up and if something crazy happens early in the game who knows what to expect.

Oh and when I said beat, I was talking about being beaten for a goal, not the game Smile

Suarez should have been in the 15 to 18 rank so hopefully they will be able to make it through on week 2.

I think Suarez will be fine in week2 and should get a DI spot.
But if they mess around in week1 and let Sparta take 2nd in the bracket, things could get dicey in week2.

Suarez takes on Sparta tomorrow night.
Should be a good match-up.

Andro-Grado 03

We scrimmaged them last week and I would say they are between 15-25 and very physical (hacking) the coach was also fairly animated for a scrimmage environment.

DDs best friend is on the Solar Red squad.. We'll have her sleep over for ice cream and swimming all day and get her fat and tired before the game, lol.

It'll all be fun. The excitement (and good-hearted trash talking) on our street is reaching a fever pitch. We've got close neighborhood/school friends on eight different 03 teams. Pretty sure how they will end up since they are all either at the very top or very bottom of their respective brackets, except for LP Rush vs Sting Goodman in bracket I.. Not sure how to bet on that one.
