I am sorry to burst your bubble on this one…but you are incorrect.  Law 14 does not state what you said.  What you refer to (sort of) applies if an infringement occurs AFTER the referee signals for the penalty kick to be taken (i.e. whistles).  PK’s are a ceremonial restart requiring a whistle. The reason for this is that there is a lot to check on, such as being sure the keeper is on the line and all other players are outside the box and behind the penalty spot etc..  Thus, a kick occurring before the whistle is a nullity but leads to a warning and potentially a caution. Below are quotes from the Advice to Referees which are the USSF’s advice on interpretation and implementation of the Laws. (emphasis added)

14.1 PENALTY KICK DEFINED
The penalty kick is a ceremonial restart which is awarded when the defending team commits a direct free kick foul within its own penalty area. . . .
14.3 WHEN THE PENALTY KICK MAY BE TAKEN
The referee will not whistle for the penalty kick to be taken until and unless the goalkeeper is on the goal line between the goal posts and facing the kicker (not turned away in an expression of unsporting behavior), the attacking player taking the penalty kick is clearly identified to the referee and the goalkeeper, and all players other than the kicker and goalkeeper are outside the penalty area, outside the penalty arc, and not nearer the goal line than the penalty mark. If the penalty kick is taken before the referee whistles, the kicker should be warned and, upon repetition, cautioned for unsporting behavior. The kick must be retaken, regardless of the outcome of the first kick.

I am sorry that the situation led to a perceived change in game result, but from what you described it sounds like the ref got it right under a pressure packed situation.  So before you go slamming a ref in such a forum, be sure about the law’s and their application.  There are plenty of ref goof ups that deserve commentary just not this one.

I believe Solar Red Colvin with their new-look offense has beefed up enough to challenge the DT Higg and FCD Prem Grubb total dominance of last year. I didn't hear the particulars but a 3-0 win against Solar Red seems to say there might be 4 way race for Lake Highlands D1 title this year.
