Re: Who Will Be The First To Use Player Pass?
I read the rules and understand that a player cannot play down but would that apply in this situation due to birth year or is it specific to team rostered with? For example:
If there is a player that is rostered on a U-16 team in Arlington but is a true "99" - can they be a club pass player on a U-15 Lake Highlands team within that same club?

Here's hoping coaches don't stoop to the level to gain a much needed draw or win.

a. A Club Pass Player may not “play down” for a team in a younger age group (e.g., an under-15 Club Pass Player may not play on an under-14 Receiving Team);

Club Pass Players
Lake Highlands Girls Classic League interpretation of the “spirit of the rule”
The LHGCL board of directors believes that the rule was incorporated in order to fulfill two basic needs:
Foster the development of players by allowing them to participate within their own club at a higher level of competition without the commitment of a roster transfer.
To assist teams that may be short sided due to injury, illness, or other commitments.

It has been used already in u14 D1
Several times.

And it is my understanding through the league that Solar Gold is using it this week as well.

Most clubs seem to be using it according to the way it was written up. Lower division LH's players have played up in DI or DII games and some DD's have played up an age group in lower division games.
Right now it seems much ado about nothing but I'm sure given some time it will be exploited in any way possible.

Some others are using it for the right reason (injuries/development) like the Solar team you mentioned

I was speaking as to what they have done up to this point
and not to what they're about to do. My bad.

There is no devious conduct. Rather than jeopardize the health of our GK and force a field player to play in goal (who did admirably for the last three games last fall and in a tourney in winter, but prefers NOT to be a long term solution in goal) we borrowed a GK.

Exactly how the rule should be used. However, I have a feeling this will not be the norm and teams will and are using it as a way to strengthen a team in important games.dadof3 wrote:Just quick reply to this...SG has an injured GK dating to last October. We thought she would be healthy for the spring, so we didn't sign another player in the winter just to sit on the bench when our starter returned. We played a field player there as a short term solution. When our GK was unable to return for this spring, we borrowed a GK.

Re: Who Will Be The First To Use Player Pass?
I believe teams are still limited by roster size, so its not like you can bring down a whole front or back line. Regardless, bringing in a new, temporary player unfamiliar with the team, can't be good for team chemistry. I can imagine what my feelings would be, if my healthy kid lost playing time or worse, sat the bench, over this rule. I could promise you, the coach would know them in detail.
Second, I would think parents (or coach) of a club's star player would question the wisdom of regularly allowing their DD to play at a lower level and risk injury. If an ECNL starter tears up a knee in D3 skirmish, what was accomplished?
Lastly, there is not a huge talent deficit between D1 and D2 this year. The upper D2 teams would be competitive against most of the D1 teams.

Our older sister squad (same coach) lost their only keeper so my DD was going to fill in for the last 5 games but was not allowed per the above rule. least that's what I was told.
