Not sure what all this implying is about. I was referring to the 03 team that imploded due to the parents being unhappy w coaching style

I have to say, the style of play usually drives new players to new teams. The next will be will your dd fit in and compete for a starting spot or roster spot.

I know several coaches that should polish up their recruiting skills, and parents with their marketing skills. Because there is about to be a whole team worth of good talent to be had.

I can name 5 but they say we're not supposed to post names or numbers on this forum... it's indirect, the coach does no formal recruiting of his own, the parents do it all... you know the old word of mouth subtle recruiting / sales tool? Or shall we call it Network Marketing? Either way, the parents talk to a friend and says, "your daughter is a hell of an athlete, you should bring her over to XXXXX practice and check it out". Meanwhile, said team / coach is pulling out all the stops to make the practice look all functional and stuff and the parents get all glassy-eyed and think, "man, this team has it together, they work on [skills, passing, field recognition, etc.] more than our team ever did." So by the essence of true recruiting, not too many coaches do that, but the active parents out there do and aren't even ashamed of it in most aspects. And really, why should they be unless it unseats their own kid from the team. The act of "word of mouth" marketing for your team isn't a bad thing, it brings in the talent for the coach to evaluate. Nothing more. My DD was subject to the same thing by LFS, was accepted to the team and then the revolving door started where there were 20 new kids trying out each week. No recruiting by JK himself at all, in fact, his communication skills leave something to be desired so I doubt he has the wherewithal to do any true recruiting. However, many savvy parents out there are willing to take care of that for him. Recruiting? NO. Network Marketing your team? YES.

Shocker, your general point is right on. And most of the time it's the parental ego thing that gets played on. The kids generally aren't aware of the behind the scenes machinations that go on. And as a parent with an ego it is tough to resist the "can't beat 'em, so join 'em" thoughts.

Just curious, but for the most part, what does a 9/10 yr. old know about style of play? To take it further, what does a parent even know about style of play? I would like to suggest that most parents don't know enough either for that to be a factor at this age. I do agree about DD fitting in and competing.

Im sure you as a parents know the difference between kick (dump) ball vs. possession base. I watched many games in my few short years of academy and I see more of the first than the latter.

Rumor has it that two ex lp coaches are starting 04 teams....but from scratch or are there already kids ready to pop over? Also there seems to be a good man out in sting and the new team will be singing jesse's girl on game day. Where or where would that team possibly recruit players from?
