Should coaches require their players to use instagram? Seems to cross the line ...What do you think?

I would say No. It's a picture sharing app don't see why any coach would require it.

So why does a coach need to share pictures with underage girls? Even if of age(say college age) seems to cross a line.

I agree with that. My DD & I believe all her teammates are on Instagram. I think a few follow their moms, but none of the dads, since they agree it is creepy.

So its like twitter... you have to be a follower? So could I follow my dd, to see what she is sending out for parental oversight...yet her not follow me to see what I am sending out?

Yes...I also think you can view her Instagram messages without following her, but I am not 100% positive since I am not on Instagram. My wife & DD follow each other, so my wife can follow my DD posts.

My DD HS soccer coach required headshots of the players. Several parents of girls who played multiple sports said he was the only coach to have such a requirement. He also required them to not wear their game uniform under their warm-up shirt so they had to change on the field. And there was the time he had his arm around a player and said to another "Don't her eyes remind you of Laura Linney from the Truman Show?" The administration was OK with all this. He has won State Championships after all.
So Instagram doesn't seem like such a big deal.

Not far enough evidently. He also made jokes and references to Mary Jane use. Still coaching.

I'm happy to hear that some of you out there think this is a red flag....I hope the coach that requires this reads your responses. If you are like me -I just want to keep my kid on the field and away from all the facebook/instagram etc. especially when they are under 10 years old?! This coach is not a parent.

I know some colleges require that the players to friend the college social media administrator. The players are told that all posts will be monitored for appropriate material. Not sure if that is the direction this coach is going with this.

The players are under 10 years old...Do you think this coach is requiring this for help into college? I might be more open to the idea if they were older. I'm not convinced at all that it is for that reason.

I am suspect of this being a requirement.
Because this is not your coach (as you would no longer be with this coach), there is a greater than zero chance that your information is not correct.
If this is in fact a requirement to be on the team, one would think that the parental units would not stick around or the coach would "find a better fit"

This is so wrong. Our coach requires all moms to follow him on Instagram, not the kids. 10 yr olds should not be following a grown man.

Instagram TOS required users to be 13 yrs old, so all other reasons aside, he can't require it of kids under 10. Besides, it's creepy.

What's crazy though is he asked the moms for full body shots. I don't know what good that is...he should know who they are.
