No one wants to break $400 bats (or hurt hands) by hitting when cold. You can still run and kick a ball in the cold.

Are you serious? Kicking a ball in that weather is like kicking a brick. The game turns ugly and the BigRunningWithScissors wrote:Sorry, but this is comparing apples and oranges.

Thugs run over the smaller skilled players because the refs don't want to call fouls at this age. Which turns into an ugly game.

That would never happen in soccer...a full refund.

Re: DD's Select Softball
I can appreciate the opinions against it by trying to protect your children, but then maybe they are tougher than you think too and just maybe they would have fun and develop mental strength through it?!
I'll give you an example of my daughter who plays soccer and lacrosse. When she was 8, we went to a lacrosse camp in December. It had been nice the whole week, but come Friday a cold front moved in and by Saturday mornings kick-off it was windy cold and drizzly. I personally thought we should maybe not go, but my daughter was game as the girls director and her coach was running the girls side and my daughter wanted to see her. So we went. Dressed her warmly and she played. It was miserable my wife and I standing there watching her run around catching throwing and cradling the ball through drills. She never looked our way or indicated she was miserable. About 2-3 hours in they were taking a water break and I decided to walk over and see if she was ready to go. I handed her an orange gatorade to drink and asked her if she wanted to go home, she looked at me and said "I like it!!" turned quickly and went back to drilling for another 2 hours when camp let out for the day. Sunday was just as bad but this time they had hot chocolate and hung out in heated cars in between playing. The camp ended and we talk about it today how much fun she had and I learned how tough she was at 8 years old. She seems to be one of the toughest and very determined kid on any team she plays on. If we had been over protective here, we would have robbed her of this experience and her confidence that grew from it.

I enjoyed it and most of the team seemed to as well. Were we cold and an sluggish and not as sharp? Maybe, but we rose to the occasion and had fun. Though I admit, I would have hated to play in those conditions all the time!

I'm happy for your experience. Last weekend my dd had to be carried off the field because she was so wet and cold. She didn't thaw out for hours after we got home. So you can thump your chest and say how tuff you are. It still makes an an ugly game which does no one any good.

And maybe somewhere up near the "billion dollar mile".
Then of course, that might eliminate all the chest bumping tales of playing in 100 or sub 32 degree games.

I don't have a problem with cold weather, but when you mix rain and wind into the mix I do.
By the way I lived in Alaska for over10 years. I love to hunt and fish so I've been out in weather that you'll never see down here. There are certain temperatures with wind and rain that the games should be played on another day.
