Best Shade Tent/ Pop Up Canopy for the money
Best Shade Tent/ Pop Up Canopy for the money
My Pop Up Canopy is very close to dead..... The frame that supports the canopy keeps bending. It is your standard $70-$100 canopy and I have heard they are expected to last three-four seasons with the wind we have here in DFW. I have seen some on the fields with better center supports but am having challenges finding those online. The ones I did find are around $300. I was really hoping to stay under $200
Are these worth the extra money? Which are the best for the money? Which Canopy do you recommend and why?
Thanks

The new inflatable one looks interesting.
One lesson I learned always put all 4 corners anchored into the ground otherwise never fails gust of wind turns it into a bent wreck.

The more expensive ones fail just as often. IMO buy the cheap ones and throw them out when they break.
There's one from Cabela's for $229 that is supposedly built a little better.
Simply put it's stregnth vs weight vs cost. It's either going to be weak, heavy, or really expensive.

Two things that have helped longevity are to periodically check and tighten the bolts in the horizontal criss-cross supports that run between the 4 legs and form the primary support frame, and just not using it if the winds get up above 20-25 mph or so (no matter how well you anchor the legs). Both of these prevent the frame from getting bent/broken, and as I'm sure you know, once the frame gets bent/broken, you're done.
If you can keep the frame in good shape, depending on amount of use, you can get at least 3 years out of one of these before the canopy material starts to break down too much.

Our team has one of the real expensive industrial EZ Ups. I think it is 12X20...covers up any player bench and most single set bleachers that we have come across . We have been using it for 3 years now and besides tightening bolts it is in perfect condition still. We stake it down at every game and haul it onto the field with a dolly as it is very heavy...But well worth the additional cost and trouble.

Just bought the Coleman 13x13. http://www.amazon.com/Coleman-Instant-Canopy/dp/B00EHKP7UM
Like it so far and it's holding up to the wind with weights. I will warn you the first time you set it up it takes a bit to figure it out and you need at least 3 people. You can do it with 2 after the first time. It's slightly different from the usual pop up. Few pluses in my book.
1. It's bigger than average (13x13)
2. It has levers instead of little buttons that always manage to mean squished fingers for me.
3. It has a vented top. This keep the air flowing both to keep it from blowing away and I think it keeps it cooler.
Happy shopping
:-)

These anchor weights in addition to the anchor stakes that come with tent have helped us keep our teams sport tent standing in mild wind when other teams go sailing across the field.
