In D1 it looks like last year's D1 top down vs. last year's D2 bottom up...D2 looks interesting with a lot of potentially tight matches. Should be a fun first weekend.

So do cross country and volleyball girls miss club games or school sports?

It depends on the school rules. Many schools will require you to make all games/events or it will impact grades.

I know my dds answer to that...she does CX for soccer...and both of her coaches know that is the order of things. She may be a little late to a scrimmage, but won't jeopardize a game. She would bow out of CX if he played a hard line. He wants her to be a part of it, and we hope it doesn't create too many conflicts...but she doesn't LOVE CX...

Dadof3. I figured that would be your answer. I agree with you that if the coaches want them they should allow a missed event or they will probably loose them outright. My dd missed a few middle school games and the coaches tried to get big and bad with her but when she said that soccer comes first and said she would not play school sports anymore the backed off.  Really curious about volleyball players. Those coaches don't want them playing anything else.  I really think you should decide by this age or already have it worked out with the high school coach

Select soccer is first.  Committed to it first and pay for it. My girls have been pressured by the school coaches to change those priorities, but those priorities won't change. Reason #1 is listed above. Either your word means something or it means nothing. You don't want to be known as a person whose word means nothing. They've committed to their select coach and team, committed means committed.
Reason #2, the school coaches in our area aren't very knowledgable. I've seen both of my girls run half a dozen cross country races with zero warmup, ZERO. Both of those teams were undefeated, comprised mostly of soccer players and the coach is busy gabbing with their coaching buddies.

In my area, the schools benefit greatly from the work put in by the select soccer coaches. The select soccer coaches get no benefits from the school coaches.

My girls enjoy the school sports, but it's mostly just for fun. Not a lot of learning going on there and there is a risk of injury. Watched quite a few soccer games in a permanent cringe.

Select soccer comes first, the school sports are a joke by comparison. Both of my girls enjoy the school sports, but there is no question about which one is the priority.

I disagree a little
I watched some pretty good high school soccer last year  in district 9-5A

It's an interesting dichotomy that most HS coaches take a poll of incoming players to discover which LH/ECNL club team they played for, form a team from those players and then demand player allegiance over those club teams that trained their varsity squad.

Fortunately, most club managers give time off during the HS season, and the club/HS regular soccer season's don't overlap until the playoffs. The rub is the playoffs.

Does a starter on both teams miss a HS playoff match for a regular season club match? A harder choice is a playoff match vs. a showcase or tourney with college scouts attending?

Glad to see you Pack. I agree, HS coaches love having a ready made team of top notch players that they didn't have to train. They also want those players to switch allegiance and play time to the HS from the select club.

H.S. Soccer in not usually that big of a deal. The issue this first half is volleyball and cross country. Are those coaches going to let them miss for Saturday games?

I recommend having a conversation with the volleyball or cross-country coach to find out. That's the only way to know for sure.

My DD passed on HS VBall as a freshman last year, but is doing it this year for fun and to work on the vertical leap. Before she went into VBall offseason at the end of last year I made her tell the coach that club soccer will always be the priority if she makes the volleyball team, and if that's an issue, then she'll just go right back to soccer offseason. The coach said she was ok with that priority.

We'll see how the coach actually feels once we send her the full LHGCL season schedule when it's released. I hope there wont be any friction, but I expect some.
