Texas Cup

So, does Mother Nature cancel the Texas Cup next weekend? Right now there is rain in the forecast for Wednesday-Friday at50-60%.

Would be a shame, our flight looks really good. Even Lonestar North Blue West A 27 Premier Green FC Vertical Sideways Rainbow Elite is coming.

OK, the rain chances for Thanksgiving weekend looks worse as of today with an 80%, 100% and 90% chance of rain Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Sunday has a 40% shot at rain in the morning. Yikes. Channels 4, 5, 8 and 11 are all saying the rain is coming in copious amounts. A good time to spend indoors with family and friends. A not so good time for Black Friday and Soccer!

Just curious, do you know how far in advance they would call this? Mostly thinking of the college coaches who are traveling and the possibility of them coming all this way for nothing.
I agree, it would be a shame if they couldn't play. My DD has invited a couple of coaches to come see her and she's super excited about that (and nervous). :-)

I would say that any out of state coach may already be changing plans as would any out of town coach. I think the earliest Sting would notify would be early Thursday morning. Wish I had a more definitive answer. Tell your DD not to be nervous. Hopefully you have a good resume for her and some action videos. College coaches look not only for skills, game knowledge and possession, but they also look for what she does when she doesn't have the ball. Best of luck.

100% chance of rain on Fri and Sat. 2-4 inches expected. You would think with it being Txgiving that Sting would cancel early to let out of town teams not travel and enjoy the holiday. Apparently, logical thinking and consideration are out the window when money is involved.

I am with you JS and Tex. Both Friday and Saturday are supposed to be bad. If I were an out of town coach with a team or an out of town coach coming to view teams, I would have already cancelled due to the impending weather. Outside of the rain percentage going up, the forecast has stayed consistent since last weekend. With the prediction of snow across the middle of the US, any team coming from Colorado, Kansas, Minnesota, Oklahoma, etc. may have a very hard time getting here - and then they would have to face monsoon season.

Here are the pertinent rules around the tournament and the weather. So, even with the bad weather predicted, you can't back out unless they determine that the weather causes reason for cancellation.
TEAMS WITHDRAWING ONCE ACCEPTED AND SCHEDULED WILL NOT BE INVITED TO THE TEXAS CUP FOR THE NEXT YEAR AND WILL FORFEIT THEIR ENTRY FEE TO THE TOURNAMENT. TEAMS WILL ALSO BE REPORTED TO THEIR HOME STATE ASSOCIATION FOR DISCIPLINARY ACTION.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WHATSOEVER, WILL THE TEXAS CUP TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE, STING SOCCER GROUP, OR STING SOCCER CLUB BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY EXPENSES (INCLUDING THE TOURNAMENT ENTRY FEE) INCURRED BY ANY TEAM. THIS INCLUDES ANY SITUATION WHERE THE TOURNAMENT OR ANY GAME(S) ARE CANCELED IN WHOLE OR IN PART.

We just got word that TX Cup was canceled. And as much as we were looking forward to playing in it, Sting made a great call. Thank you for putting kids, parents and teams before profit. I know that was a hard pill to swallow, but it speaks highly of your program. THANKS

That is a good call. Wanted to see them play, but with all that rain...injuries, sloppy play, and I bet hardly any college coaches show up. Enjoy the weekend and Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

It is disappointing that the weather interfered with what would have been an exciting weekend, but there will be more and as noted above, that's a few less pulled muscles and a few less injuries overall.
