So Megan Rampinoe says she will not stand for national anthem moving forward. Wonder how that's going to work out while wearing a national team jersey. I get Hope Solo getting the boot for saying things. Isn't kneeling during the anthem also saying quite a bit.

They should give her the "boot" as well. I'm sure there are plenty of young good players willing to show respect to the nation that gives them the opportunity to play the great game.

WE get it... you don't have to stand... You also don't have to play.

a member of the national team has no business doing this and now is undeserving of the opportunity to represent us.

I think her days with the WNT are numbered anyway as she will be released to make way for new blood.

Yes all of these people are so oppressed they were able to reach the highest level of play in their sport and make $$$ doing it.

Can I get some of that oppression please?

Disrespect to every man and woman that gave the ultimate sacrifice for this country.

If they like sitting for the anthem they can sit for the game. They should be fined and benched or fired. Period.

Her time with the WNT is about over anyway.

She may just be trying to create an excuse for being dropped or trying to set up for a law suit after she is dropped blaming it on violating her freedom of speech rights.

Trying to jump in the victim seat and grab some $ on the way out.

Well done Megan --

Fabulous example for all those little girls looking up to you.

For the love of God ... These athletes say they are protesting police brutality. Can she not find a more relevant means to make absolutely zero difference? I'd love to hear just one intelligent explanation from any of these sheep that would link our national anthem (or the United States in general in any regard) to the police brutality issue. How is this not causing more harm than good?

Sheesh.

Oh boy I have a lot to say on this issue though i probably shouldn't. Firstly the idea of peaceful protest is an amazing process this country has had for years. Years ago folks thought throwing tea into the sea was disrespectful to the queen and many of the folks that saw the protest. The black armband in 1968 is an iconic picture that shocked the world. One may disgrees on the method can the discussion of the message move the cause in a positive way. Would I sit for the athem no. Do I listen and understand the experiences of those "sheep" as folks call those that have an opinion different then theirs. Yes having experiences that draw and paint my world view. The goal is discussuon and acknowledgement of a problem. Unfortunately it appears to me that that is not occurring. If one looks back Kapernick never had a pressor to explain what he was doing the press found him doing it and pushed the issue. To understand the other person you must walk miles in their shoes.

It is classless to do this on your employer's dime and time. Both K & R can quit their teams in protest, call press conferences, and/or attend/host rallies on their own time.

I won't even address the false narrative.

everyone has their opinion and they are entitled to it...............my opinion if they want to exercise their rights in what i feel a disrespectful and irrelevant way .........................fine........................whatever................... its more for their personal attention by players that are no longer relevant and are trying to regain their extinguished fame by using deeper and legit issues as a false front to do so...................but rapinoe can kiss off in this case..............she went beyond just taking a stance during the anthem............................she was wearing the colors and emblems and she as an individual and team member was specifically representing the very country she was protesting in an international sproting event....................doing it during her seattle game in their uniform is one thing....................you want to take a stance against our country then dont put the u.s. jersey on...................oh wait.............then no one would give a sh** at all........................yet here we are talking about her and not the issue she claims shes protesting.........................looks like that brat is getting what she wants.................................so not saying another word about her until i rejoice in her fleeing for another country to protest

Following the game, U.S. Soccer released this statement: “Representing your country is a privilege and honor for any player or coach that is associated with U.S. Soccer’s National Teams. Therefore, our national anthem has particular significance for U.S. Soccer,” the statement read. “In front of national and often global audiences, the playing of our national anthem is an opportunity for our Men’s and Women’s National Team players and coaches to reflect upon the liberties and freedom we all appreciate in this country. As part of the privilege to represent your country, we have an expectation that our players and coaches will stand and honor our flag while the national anthem is played.”

They knew she was going to kneel prior to the game and did nothing.  If this is their position, shame on them for not taking it prior to the game, and shame on them if they don't take immediate action.

1. She has her constitutional rights as an American to protest in this fashion. What that means is that she will not be thrown in jail for this type of free speech.

2. Her employer has every right to fire her if she doesn't represent them the way that they want her to.

3. The issue of police brutality has been discussed ad nauseam due to the black lives matter movement. Anyone thinking it's not been discussed enough doesn't have a grasp on reality.

4. Rapinoe is a coward. It's like flipping your boss the bird after you've decided to retire. She's at the end of her career anyway and isn't missing any Olympics or World Cups due to this "courageous" stance.

Me and mine stand, but I could care less about what others choose to do.

I do find this situation a bit odd. Is there anything more lesbian than the USWNT? Softball, maybe.

YOu have the freedom to speak your mind but that goes both ways and folks have to realize the first law of science. For every action there is an equal reaction. I think that's how it goes not sure if it's the first law school was way too many years ago.

3. The issue of police brutality has been discussed ad nauseam due to the black lives matter movement. Anyone thinking it's not been discussed enough doesn't have a grasp on reality. Discussion of Black lives matter hasn't not really solved anything and really hasn't stirred the conversation (most folks still don't see it as a problem) as this probably won't solve anything either however, this seem to have gotten peopled a whole lot more fired up than a group of folks marching up and down a street.

4. Rapinoe is a coward. It's like flipping your boss the bird after you've decided to retire. She's at  the end of her career anyway and isn't missing any Olympics or World Cups due to this "courageous" stance.
Not sure if I would call her a coward she is making her statement in the twilight of her career probably knowing that there are going to be repercussions for her actions. Probably some folks that are against her that were originally a supporter of her.

She has the Right and Freedom to express her opinion.

What people tend to forget is she has NO RIGHT do so without suffering the ramifications from expressing her opinion from any organization or person in the country who does not agree with her opinion, as long as what they do is legal.

I thought I would catch more heat for this.

SCOTUS legalized gay marriage in late June 2015. In July 2015, the very first thing we saw on tv after the world cup win was Abby Wambach kissing her wife. There's definitely discrimination out there, but lesbian soccer players, specifically aging ones, don't have much to complain about.
