Player movement and forms

With the age pure split last year and JDL this year, it seems that the Spring postseason "rules" are either out of date or maybe just not well described in one easy to find location (maybe both). So let's see what the Forum has to say. For each question we need the answer for NTX only players, JDL only player, and NTX/JDL combo players.

1. What is the date that a player under contract for 2016/2017 becomes a free agent?
2. What is the date that a player may begin training with another club without obtaining current coach/club permission?
3 Is a guest player release required to guest play for a USYS club in May and June?
4. Is a player loan form needed to guest play for a USCS club in May and June?
5. Is there any recourse for the player should a coach/club refuse to grant permission to guest play?

We were told in a meeting recently May 1st for item 2.

Answers for NTSSA registered players (don't know what rules/agreements are in place for JDL)...

5. Is there any recourse for the player should a coach/club refuse to grant permission to guest play? Can get a guest release signed by NTSSA, but NTSSA will not sign the release if the player's current team is playing in that same tournament.

Thanks BW - That is helpful. Curious though - based on your reply, it looks like a NTSSA registered player is still under contract until July 1, but that a guest release is not required? Then why would NTSSA be signing them if they are not required?

The difference is between practice and tournament play. After State Cup/League Play is ended, a player no longer needs a practice release. However, a player is still under contract all the way until June 30, and if they want to guest play in a tournament before then, they still need a guest player release for that.

Clarification on the Guest Player Situation: You must have a properly executed Guest Player release form to guest play in tournaments until June 30 2017. NTSSA will not sign a guest player release for for any reason same as last year, if your current coach denies your request you cannot guest play.

So what NTSSA is saying, is that they want to encourage everyone to sign up for US Club sanctioned tournaments in the months of May and June...

Which they need a US Club card to play and you can only have one card .....if you already have a card because your team played in a US Club sanctioned league such as Primetime or JDL you need a player loan form signed by the coach. If not you have to get a card through the team you are playing with.

3.10.10 Soccer-Playing Year for Competitive Players
1. NTSSA has established the seasonal year as being from September 1 through August 31
However, these rules provide that a competitive player is a free agent beginning July 1. That
player will continue to be a free agent until the player and /or his parents or guardian have
signed a contract with a team. The period of August 1 of the prior soccer year through
completion of State Cup competition for their age group, whether or not their team is
participating in State Cup, or completion of league play for their team, whichever is last of the
current soccer year is considered the soccer-playing year for competitive players. During the
soccer-playing year, players are not allowed to try out, practice, or participate with any other
team, unless they are a competitive player in the same club or registered as a guest player with
another team, in which case the proper release must be signed by all parties. Practice with a
team on which a player is registered as a guest player is permitted only if the practice dates are
included on the guest player release. A competitive player practicing with a team in the same
club is permitted throughout the seasonal year. Otherwise, a player may practice with another
team if he has received a written permission letter signed by his current coach that sets out the
dates and the team with which the player will practice. The player is to give the letter to the
coach of the team with which he will be practicing, and he must keep a copy for himself. After
completion of State Cup competition for their age group or completion of league play for their
team, whichever is last (the end of the soccer-playing year for competitive players), players
may practice with other teams without any required release or other permission, although formal
tryouts may not be held until July 1. Players wishing to guest play in tournaments must always
obtain a properly signed guest player release. (See Rule 4.7.1.) Contracts may be signed
beginning July 1, although signing July 1 is not mandatory. After July 1 players who are not
or have not been rostered to a team for the current soccer year may sign a contract for the current
soccer year at any time. (This does not include indoor soccer.)
