Pro tip: If your coach is still posting "Looking for Keeper" on June 30th you're screwed unless you find another team.

Have a great day!

What's better - how many of those still looking had multiple goalies trying out, but kept waiting for the "next best thing" to show up, pissed off the ones who were there, and may be now stuck with a rotation of field players?

Note to those coaches - next year, when you are looking for a goalie for your PPL / D3 team, you might make an offer to one of those early goalies who showed up and stop thinking you will see the next Hope Solo further in the tryout process.

lol!

Maybe the GKs that showed up early weren't better than those rotation of field players! Sometimes holding out hope for Hope Solo is better than taking a GK that went in between the pipes because she couldn't play in the field and now she can't play between the pipes either!

lol!

Yeah, I would say the better skilled keepers get scooped up pretty quickly. Now there is always the occasional exception.

Or you might be just looking for a 2nd keeper. Considering that most teams have more then defender, forward or midfielder. It only serves the team and the keeper (IMHO) better by having a secondary keeper rather then just throwing a field player that sometimes plays keep into that role. I know it's tough because most keepers want to be full time keepers and rarely have interest in playing on the field. So the argument could be made that they are not the same as Defenders, forwards or midfielders and there is some truth to that. However, I think there is more good that comes out of having two similar keepers that share the load then 1 keep and a field player that gets put into a situation they might not be able to handle.

Good luck on finding that mythical creature. A keeper that wants to split time in goal.

Post by ElClassico 30/06/17, 01:41 pm

it's a numbers game...especially as girls get older.

3 DA x 2 Keepers = 6
5 ECNL x 2 Keepers = 10
6 TCL x 2 Keepers = 12
6 out 10 D1 x Keepers = 12
4 out of 10 D1 x 1 Keeper = 4

So that's 44 keepers before you even get to D2 / D3 / PPL, If you're one of those teams and are looking and have a decent keeper show up I think it would have been wise to lock her up ASAP. There are simply not enough dedicated GK's to fill all the spots.

As the girls get older it gets harder and harder to find the girls in the Back. Looking for GK's and CM's late is a tough thing, ask any coach.

Goes against every fiber in their being. Even in a 2 keeper situation they're trying to win the position outright.

In that case the coaches would have said thanks but no thanks after day one, right? Do you think that happened or like a lot of positions, they kept the girls coming for practice after practice with the hope of something better coming through the door? Unfortunately when it comes to GK's demand usually outweighs supply.

What's considered a good Keeper in the different age groups? What does a good '07 Keeper look like versus what a good '04 Keeper looks like?

A good '07 keeper looks like an '04.

A good '04 keeper looks like she drives.

It's the same way in Michigan. Moral of the story is coaches would rather have Jaime Lannister with one hand over Tyrion any day of the week.

So is the belief of a Keeper playing bigger than her size nonexistent in the soccer world? My DD is a Keeper and I would call her average in size for her age, but I think she plays bigger than she is (I'm also dad so I'm a little bias).

If keeper plays bigger than she is, that's good. If they play the size they are because they are big then they are called a center and not even the NBA has a use for them anymore.

If tyrion plays bigger than his size, he's still small and has little hands.
