LHGCL Fall Season Empty LHGCL Fall Season

Post by Eddyinmyyeti 03/11/19, 07:31 pm

Fall season is over (for the most part). Solar South and Angelone again showed they are top two teams in the league by a good margin. Texans showed they are continuing to remain strong. Bones losing to Lightning was a surprise, as I thought that was a team that may be ready to make a run towards the top (along with FCD Red) A few other teams had an interesting fall that I’m sure they are not happy with. And some that are pleasantly surprised. Overall, it was a good fall season. Spring will be fun! I know everyone will continue to improve and come out ready to prove themselves. Anyone see any surprise results or teams this fall?

I agree with your assessment that Solar South and Angelone are the best in the league, and its theirs to lose. What's impressive is the sheer number of goals they scored which dwarfs everyone else. They have done a nice job with their offensive lines. I wouldn't count Bones out yet -- they are hard to underestimate and have a strong midfield core and greatly improved defense. I think they had an off game against Lightning, who themselves are unpredictable because of their speed and counter. Impressed with Solar Gray and even Villareal's performance which was higher than I expected. I thought Texas Spirit would be higher but shows the competition has increased and they may have lost a player. Agree Samba continues to appear strong (they reformulated their midfield and backline well) though have not been able to show the offensive generation of a Angelone or Adames. 5 of 7 top teams are Solar. IF they put a super team together they would be a powerhouse. Potentially could threaten the dominance of Voutier?

I think SS is the strongest team in D1 right now.  Angelone next, then Texans...but their games are almost always nailbiters.
Agreed about TX Spirit's ranking, but they have a chance to jump into the top 10 with a win this next game against Megli.  Cosmos could jump into top 10 as well if they win one or both upcoming games, then they would push FCD Blue further down with their 4 draws.  FCD Central higher up than FCD Red and Blue is surprising to me.  Bones losing to Lightning was a surprise too, but Lightning plays a very physical game (read their parents actually tell the girls to go out there and "bang them up") that is hard to predict.

I wonder how the top 5 in D2 would fare versus the bottom 5 of D1

I love that it is so competitive. Teams are really showing up to play and it is no longer just 6-8 teams dominating everyone. The spring will definitely be interesting as those at the top will have even more challenging games and those at the bottom have already gotten their most challenging games over with.

A lot of the top 10-12 games will be complete nail biters. As for the Bones team, I think they probably just had an off game. Or maybe Lightning had an amazing day. I wouldn’t count Bones out though. After playing them several times this summer, my daughter contends they are one of the toughest matches in her opinion.

It was a great Fall season. In this league if you don't show up one day, the other team will be ready to take advantage of it. Have to put the shots in the back of the net. I wish we all played more games this fall. The spring season gets so much rain. I hope we get to play them all.

WOW! I just checked to see what you meant @Proph. That’s a surprise. But, as someone stated before, these D1 teams are not as predictable as one might think. I wonder what happened though.

I guess they could have player passed, but I doubt that is what tilted the scales. Sounds to me like SS just didn’t come ready to play and the other team did.

I was not aware of any guest players... at least not from the other top 3 Solar teams. Nacho, are you guessing with that comment or do you know something?

I heard Williamson was very physical and the ref wasn’t calling it. I wasn’t there though so who knows.

@Nacho, how do you know they had guest players? Are you just assuming this based on the score? I doubt they used any guest players due to the fact that they come from Forney and tend to stay to themselves. The closest team to them is Solar Gray and I doubt they would use any guest players from them.

An impressive performance by Williamson, no question. A team not to be under-estimated. Midway through, Angelone in the clear.

The season isnt over folks.. Until you play all of the teams there is no champion and only a few weeks ago we heard about how the top 2 Solar teams were at a different level. Guess we wont know until next year..

The schedule was heavily backloaded for all the top teams so nobody has really played anyone yet. The Spring will be a lot of fun!

"so nobody has really played anyone yet", meaning the top 10 teams have not played each other yet? Doesn't Williamson v Adames, Lightning v Bones, and Moreno v Colvin suggest that doesn't matter?

Actually it means exactly what I said. The top 6 teams in the standings haven’t played each other at all. Not one game between them. Have some of those 6 teams tied and lost some games against teams outside the top 6? Sure. But they haven’t played each other, yet. If you read my earlier posts, I said anyone can beat anyone. Sigh.

I get what Proph is saying. There were some anomalies this season for sure and some teams brought it against the top teams. But to Prophs point, the spring will see Adames/Angelone/Texans/Colvin/Grado / Bones all play each other. Now, maybe there is some argument to be made that a few teams are creeping into that top 5/6 but based on results from the fall the top group held it together.

I love seeing all the teams compete... I was just pointing out that the schedule was intentionally back loaded so a lot will change in the Spring. In fact, I don’t expect all teams in the top 6 teams to finish in the top 6.

Sadly, this is a common occurrence with this team.  It is unfortunate that the coach does not take a more active role in teaching the kids how to properly position themselves to keep from fouling/physically making unnecessary contact with the opposing player.  We have played this team many times, and its frustrating; not because the girls keep using the same tactics; but because they haven’t been taught the correct way = coach fails to address and use as a teachable moment.
This has nothing to do with the team’s talent, it’s simply a coaching issue that is being overlooked.

Gotta love 11 year old soccer  Sad

Proph, you know all too well, that as long as you have that Solar logo as your profile pic, you are going to beat up in these forums. Nobody likes the big bad wolf, lol.

Good job Solar Williamson on your recent win, there were no guest players, just some hungry players who wanted to win. What a great lesson for SS and their players, I bet they will learn from this and move on.

The good news is, there will be a lot of good games in the next three weeks, woohoo! I’m excited!

Wait...11?
