Re: 96s ECNL - Raleigh
Thanks socrocks! I won't be making the trip, but Telstar should be there. Just look for the tallest guy on our sideline. Here is our schedule. Good luck to your girls too!socrocks wrote:Four 96 teams playing an ECNL event in Raleigh, NC this weekend. I've included a schedule and a link for scores/standings for those who might want to see what's happening. Best of luck to all of the Texas teams (even your Lonestars, Zygor...maybe I'll see you there).

Just spoke to the wife. Cold there and she said one field looked like a pasture.

Guess we would have to ask ECNL. But I'm just guessing with the number of teams there, someone knows. We actually have a cop's DD on our team, have not heard him cry foul as of yet.

Not unusual at all. Long before ECNL, college showcases started on fridays. The CASL showcase being played right now also started today.

We played at WRAL. Fields were very small, no space between sidelines, turf wss OK. IMO, a Rec level complex not appropriate for an ECNL event. Parking was woefully inadequate. ECNL should use more muscle and be more discriminating in their venue choices.justbecause wrote:zygor wrote:I haven't heard back on that yet. Today we play at Wake Med (which is where the NCAA women's semis/final are being played. Several of our parents saw our field already and said it looks to be pristine. Tomorrow we play on a high school field, so not sure what to expect.
Our girls get a tour of UNC and their soccer facility today, following our game, so they're looking very forward to that.
Good luck to Texas teams the remainder of the event!

Lonestars are playing on that high school field now. Moguls and slopes....If it were snowing, maybe they could get a few ski runs in.socrocks wrote:We played at WRAL. Fields are terrible maybe half the width...girls taking corner kicks and air mailing out of bounds on other side of field...

Re: 96s ECNL - Raleigh
Fri - Feet played Virginia FC. Solid team, good possession, passed well. Feet were a better team....maybe not to the degree that was reflected with the 3-0 score. I'd call them a mid-level D1 team. We played on a very small field. Without furthering my rant on the subject, I think it's a disservice to our teams/clubs to play on a facility like this (at the ECNL level).
Sat - Feet played Colorado Rush on an awesome field at Wake Med. This is the type of facility teams look forward to playing at. Feet lost 1-0. Colorado was a very good team (I'd say top 1/3 of D1. Much bigger than us and played a very similar style (lots of possession, space, passing). Their goal came on an own-goal off of a corner. Tough way to give up a goal. Although we outshot them (12-6), I think they beat us at our own game and their win was deserved. We did have some good scoring chances but didn't convert. Feet were pretty hobbled (injury-wise) and played with a short roster. We seemed to fade the 2nd half.
After this weekend I'm an advocate of ECNL using stand alone events. I'm not sure that anyone (other than the host club's finances) benefits from the mass of teams that filled the Raleigh area for this event.

It will be interesting to see how ECNL handles the reschedules. Due to scheduling restraints, I will be surprised if they are made up.

Because of the travel schedule and limited time, you are probably right.
One option that crossed my mind would be to let teams make it up through regional ECNL play. For example, Feet is not scheduled to play Solar as part of their normal regional schedule. That might be an option to accommodate some of the teams that didn't get their games in. Geographically, this probably wouldn't work for a number of teams, though.
