To the kids it absolutely is not important.

To the parents, if your kid is talented, being in the top 10-20 come select means you have a good chance of playing D1 or D2 lake highlands and a better chance for scholarships.

Now yes, if you have good talent and skills, you can always try out to get on one of these teams later, but ideally you are on this team already going into U10 soccer.

All of that being said, there will likely be much turn over and changes between now and U10 so much of these rankings won’t mean much until another two years. I think most on here do it just for fun. If anyone gets bent out of shape or has to create multiple aliases to pump up their team (you know who you are), they are taking this too seriously.

Relax and welcome. Don’t take it to seriously and just ignore those who do.

No worries! I am relaxed. This was my first big soccer tourny as a dad and i was getting good laughs at how serious it was at the young age. Obvioulsy based on my name...i have been involved in other sports. I have simply seen some really talented kids get sick of a sport before they are in their mid teens. Unfortunately it is usually because the parents are so gung ho and push them so hard! When I found this website I realized soccer is no different.

Baseballdad..... Welcome to North Texas Soccer!! Hold on tight, pucker up and enjoy the ride. It will not get any better. Rankings and discussions (positive or negative) will go on forever. Take a look at the '05 thread or '06 thread. They have already started their too. Learn how not to be reactive and try not to take the bait from some of the trolls on this board. Many great parents on this board. Just like anywhere, you have some bad apples. Best of luck.

I am going to chime in and ask what athlete this is you are referring to? If I am thinking correctly, this is my child. So I just wanted to thank you for noticing her. All of the white team does a superb job, and we are happy to be a part of it. As you can see, Joey Kennington has done an outstanding job developing athletes on the white team, as evidenced by your remark about my daughter. When she started with him a year ago, she was far from the same athlete she is now. She has come so far with Joey. Just wanted to throw a quick shout out that you noticed all the hard work Joey does in developing our girls!

The Thing is, Rankings are Compiled by Parents who KNOW the Teams in Question...Most of the Parents Posting Rankings have Seen Most of the Teams they're Ranking...& Even w/the Expected BIASES Permeating the Site, the Top 5-10 '04 Teams, on Most Lists, are Legtimate...

Children May or May Not Know what Rankings are, but it Does WONDERS for them and their Teams Confidence, when they Beat a Squad that's Highly Regarded...

@ the End of the Day, this is COMPETITIVE Soccer...If it Really Didn't Matter, we'd All Be Content Dominating REC Leagues and just doing Skills Sessions...

Youth Sports: Can you please copy that and make it a separate post in our 04 group? I'd like to see a separate discussion on this and on a few things we can have our kids do at home to prevent injury.

Don’t kid yourselves… at this age group, most of the better teams are great because of recruiting. Very few out there that have developed their own players.

So continue on to some of the responses. Does this mean that the goal is to play the Academy soccer until a certain age and then go to Club soccer at a certain age, if accepted?

Academy soccer ends after the Spring season of U10G.

In U11G , your child either plays U11G Competitive, or U11G recreational. Academy is no longer an option.

In U6-U10, Academy is used to supplement recreational play. Over time, it has evolved to a point where it often takes the place of recreational play. Many/most "top" U6-U10 players no longer play rec at all, as Clubs really push Academy as the "way to go" to prepare your player for competitive/select soccer at U11.

I watched some games in the PSA league last weekend..There is some excellent talent on display there. The 2 Solar teams that played each other had some excellent athletes on both sides. That Solar team in Blue is one to watch for in the future. Several impressive players.
