select try out information

Trying to get information on select tryout pr4ocess. We have been told that FCDallas has a 3 day try out system. Do all girls have to tryout if already on an 02 team? How does this work? Anyone know??

Every team and every club will have some form of "tryout" process before select but for most teams, tryouts are mainly to finalize few (one or two for top/stable teams and three to five for other teams) open or "weak" spots. Most teams should be pretty set on the majority of the roster spots. For parents (not kids), this is the time to see if their DD could "upgrade" to a stronger/better fit team or "secure" a spot on a different team. You, as a parent, should fully leverage this "tryout" period if:

1) You believe your DD is not a good fit for the team that she is on
2) You believe your DD's coach may "cut" your DD in favor of the next hot shot that walks on the team
3) You believe your team may fall apart before going select (e.g., coach is talking about spending more time on something else, team is having trouble recruiting and relies on guest players, too much drama with the parents of "star" players)

Last year, for '01s, many parents were caught off guard by some unexpected events beyond their control.

My advice for any 02 is don't try out for select. Either stay with or go to a team that knows and wants your dd. Trying out is risky as if the coach is looking to just fill the bottom of his roster you may end up watching more than playing for the entire year. Ideally, you should know where you fit now, not this summer. Every situation is different, just make sure to do what is best for your DD and take anything you are told by coach with a grain of salt. Coaches may have obvious or subtle, even financial reasons to have your DD which may not be in her best interest.
