My DD will be a senior this coming year. getting ready for College
My oldest DD is doing the college cruise this summer, to visit the schools that have made her offers for scholarships and acceptance. these visit will count as “Official school recruitment visits”, so she has guidelines she will have to follow. Please read and understand your NCAA recruitment guidelines. It is the first thing coaches will ask you if you understand.
This summer she will visit 3 D1 schools and 2 D2 schools.(she has been offered scholarships by all these schools)
There is a lot of this league or that league banter out there. and I am not leaning either way I just want to pass along how we did it. But she did not play in ECNL and only just made lake Highlands. we debated the ECNL route but we liked our team and so did our DD. So we went the traditional route of a lot of hard work
We sat down with our DD early and asked her What she would like to do in the future... she picked three things... so we started looking into schools who majored in these areas. Our thought process was.
1. Started cold calling the schools to find out what they looked for in a student to be considered for admission into their College. we figured we needed to know where she had to be academically to fit into the schools that fit her Majors.
2. Looked into what they offered for financial aid, student loans and other programs.
3. We talked to the athletic department to find out what offers and programs are available for student athletes, each school we found was different.
4. We talked to the coach and asked what they would be interested in seeing from a potential player. vids, pictures, skills coaching so on so forth..
5. Then we asked what was their recruitment schedule, where and what events for the next year they planned on attending.(they tend to follow the same events each year, is what They told me)
6. talked with our teams coach to find out what events we were attending so we could make a match of at least 3 in two years with each coach.
7. Notified the coach on the same events we would be at, then asked for a review while at those events.
It is a lot of work but in the long run I enjoyed it, so did our DD.
No matter what direction you DD goes, be it ECNL, LH, Plano, Arlington, Or just High School sports.... Parents take the time to do your Homework. It will help in the long run.
