Rookie 3v3 question

Are the 3 v 3 tournaments (Kick it, etc) under US Soccer/ North Texas rules, such that players are limited to your official roster, plus guest players released by current teams? Or is it possible to form 3 v 3 teams regardless of roster?
DD has some friends on other teams, and they may want to play together.

Sorry, being dense here....so the only rules for forming teams are that the players are in the right age group, and you have the minimum number of players? No need to get releases from Club/Team and go through North Texas or local association? Completely private unregulated enterprise, the American way?

Just register, have birth certificates available, t-shirts with a clever name and a number on the back and you are ready to go.
