Can a 7th/8th grader play on a select team for a coach that is a high school soccer coach in their attendance zone? Or is it against UIL rules? Does it matter the gender of the high school team they coach?

Unless it has changed over the last couple of years...your player can play for a high school coach's select team if the coach is not a coach at your high school, or coaches the opposite gender from the player.
I knew coaches that were HS girls coaches, but would only coach select Boys teams to avoid conflict, and vice-versa. TAPPS (private schools) has similar provisions, but they have some pretty tight restrictions as well due to the ability to transfer schools.

Even so, its less restrictive than some club teams that outlaw HS ball...
