Somebody predicted that the CFBAL platinum division was going to liven up these 06' threads. It's going to be good competition and possible an entertaining forum.

I'm surprised to see so many teams playing up already. 7 by my count. Besides "hiding" their players from the recruiters,  tongue , why did so many coaches decide to play up? There aren't that many teams that are so far ahead of the curve. At least not from what I've seen. It seems to me that some really competitive division could have been made in the age group.

I can only speak for us. Apart from 1 season which we played in PAL against Liverpool Fowler, Sting Hanlon (use to be Solar Armstrong) and another team we have always played up in 05 age group. Its something we are use to.

audrey gutierrez is listed as the coach and hanlon as the manager. I heR it was an interesting mix of kids from various rosters... this should be interesting.

I hear there were several teams with new faces. Looks like there was some reshuffling during the break.
I stand behind my original opinion that a more competitive league could have been had in the age group. But it's certainly each coach's right to do what he/she feel is best for the development of their team.

agreed..

The problem is some coaches are still tight lipped about where they are playing.. team 'X' then makes the bold move not to wait until the registration deadline to decide and says 'eff it', we'll just play up.  At least there we 'should' play against stronger & often faster girls most weekends.

I think it's definitely more competitive that it was last Spring & even last Fall.  Let's just hope more coaches/teams follow the same lead as the 05's and collectively come together in the same league.

It would be great for the 06s to play in CFBAL against each other.  CFBAL Fall for the 05s was awesome.  Unfortunately, the 05s shook it up a little bit this Spring by some playing against boys and/or playing up to go 11v11 but the Fall Platinum and Gold divisions are still pretty strong and competitive, and the Silvers are getting better.

It will be interesting to see how Kicks 06 fairs in the Platinum division but I do not understand the other top 06 teams playing in the Silver divisions.  If they do not want to play each other in a top Platinum 06 division then they should be at least be playing in the 05 Gold division.  To me, that is where the development will happen - when you play games against teams that are better than you.  Not sure much is gained from playing allegedly "faster and bigger" girls who don't have the same skill.

+2 They are obviously bigger, but I question if the Silver 05' girls are quicker/faster.

Notice I didn't say more skilled.  And faster/stronger is just the knee jerk response most have... older girls should be bigger, faster & stronger. We know that is not always the case.

There are a few teams that truly should play up, but I find it difficult to believe that an 06 team has more room for development in the 05 Silver bracket vs the 06 Platinum (assuming most or all of the top teams register).

It just goes to a major flaw the US Soccer can't shake... bigger/faster is always better.

The parents are probably all happy when you "play up" and win.
