This is quite true and I'm not sure how it happened. The yellow is a GREAT tool to control and sometimes change the entire complexion of the game. I always told the kids at kickoff "we're playing with SKILL today ladies/gents", and I meant it. The paperwork excuse is BS. Its not that hard.

We just need the Ref's to keep the game under control. If more Yellows were issued, I think the game would revert back to skills and speed. I understand that soccer has more subjective rules than other sports but I can't think of a reason why a ref wouldn't card a girl using hands to shove or strike another player. Yet I see it multiple times each game. It has become an expected part of the game. Everyone sees it but no one calls it. Ref's shouldn't have to worry about parents. While the adults should police themselves, it really is the coach's job to keep their team and supporters in line not the Refs. I want their attention focused on the field.
Agree 100%. The players start seeing some Yellow Cards being given...there will be less fouls and better, more skilled soccer. Sure, there will still be fouls...but its part of the game. There are fouls/penalties called in all the other sports at this age because its part of the game...so why not in soccer.
As for the parents...they are always going to scream and yell when a call doesn't go their way...but who cares...that's part of it too. Refs just have to brush it off and be confident in their calls and not let whiny parents or coaches dictate how they call a game.
yes and playing with a yellow could put the brakes on fouling if the coach and the player knows they are just a foul away from playing a man down and sitting out a game...
Players would then be conditioned to play the game without even getting a yellow card. Coaches would train players in their play that would prevent them from warnings and even ejections
Yellow cards are apart of the game, hard fouls, persistent fouling, and descent need to be carded. We are not training our players to play the beautiful game in fear they are just going to get mugged on the field.

Definitely a pre-mature statement. She will need to earn her spot just like everyone else. I am just very frustrated with the level of play in LHGCL. The games look nothing like soccer due to what players and teams are able to get away with on the field.

Rules??? There are no "rules" in soccer big guy.... Another reason why we Refs call us parents the "Experts"...

DOTS, I'm still waiting for a parent to run up down the Touch-Line staying on-line with the 2nd to last defender, instead of screaming bad call from whatever inappropriate angle they are sitting at... lol

Re: At what age do Yellow and Red cards start coming out?
It was a 0-0 game early in the 2nd half. Good play, but nothing dirty or even rough by either team (both teams from same club). A corner kick by one team goes into box, the keeper goes up high and punches it out. It looked like a good play, little to no contact. But apparently one of the players took exception to the keeper making contact (I'm guessing).
As the ball was moving up to the midfield area, one player attacked the keeper by shoving him into the goal. When the keeper was trying to move forward back onto the field, the opposing player put up his dukes and started throwing down. I would estimate 6-8 punches were thrown with at least a couple of them landing. The keeper was forced to protect himself by putting up his mitts and protecting his face, but the other kid connected a few times.
It took a second for the CR to notice that all heck was breaking loose.
After all was said and done, the offending player was sent to the sideline, but I never saw a red card. If ever here was a red card situation, here was the time. The kid went all Rocky Balboa on an opponent (plus kid has a history of bad and dirty play, not that the refs know this).
But they replaced him in the lineup and the other team played on with 11.
During a stoppage moment, I asked the AR about what had happened. Red Card? Playing with 11? She said, "We don't even bring our cards out at this age. We never issue red cards, but I've never seen anything like this." So he did get a red, but the team got to play on with 11. Which is fine. They aren't select yet and need to keep as many kids on the field as possible.
But I was wondering why they don't bother to at least bring their cards. Did this boy even understand that he had been carded? I doubt it since he sat on the bench and played grab-@$$ the rest of the game not even showing any signs of remorse. The boys were even up behind their bench reenacting the fight a few times.
It was the craziest thing I've seen at such a young age. We've all seen the pushing and shoving, and maybe even a punch or two thrown, but this was way beyond that.
