Solar does OK with this one.  In 2011, they sold $130,900 worth of tickets.  Their expense on the raffle was $6,771, for a profit of just over $124,000, according to their 2011 Form 990.

The way it's always seemed to work when I looked at it was like this, at the younger ages there's little to no benefit from these things, however the benefit is seen more when you get further along in the journey through select soccer. Now if you don't continue on through select soccer then it was a big waste of time. IF you do end up playing select and ECNL you will see some of the benefit.

It's a screwed up system but I really don't think most folks would really ever want to foot the full bill for what it really costs to play soccer in NTX without fundraisers.

I'm just glad I no longer have to send my kiddo out door to door selling raffle tickets or other junk.

oh really so how much does the Kool aid cost that you are drinking. I still don't see what it is exactly that you get once you go select

On the surface, this seems really strange that it's mandated.  What happens to an individual or team if they choose not to participate?

That seems to be the question of the hour...it is now mandatory for Academy players to sell. Not sure how that can be enforced, though.

What are the benefits of going to a "big club" as opposed to a "smaller" club or even independent? and Vice Versa?

My favorite is clubs that make it "mandatory" for teams to sent a parent "volunteer" - especially when there was no notice of this when we signed up. What if no one "volunteered". Going to kick the team out?

Benefit of big clug is recruiting good players and keeping your good players. Many DD and parents want the name. Usually more organized. Negative would be less independent options like uniforms and training. it's always better to have the name rather than a "who are you??????"
