U20 Women's World Cup

Re: U20 Women's World Cup
She will have to learn to wear it from now on. I wish it would become a cool thing and the norm. So, she does not get asked all the time why she wears it.
Girls at this age just want to fit in.

I would prefer mine wear it, but she will not do so. Says it is too distracting and bothersome.
I never understand these responses. Who is the parent and who is the child in your relationship?
Plain and simple with mine... As long as you are living under my roof and I'm paying your soccer dues, you're wearing the head gear.
Well, let me enlighten you. My daughter is older. She is at the age where she has to make her own decisions. Her mother and I have given her our thoughts on the issue, and she has made her choice. She has taken the responsibility and understands that this could cost her in the long run, but that is her decision. If everyone took your stance, I'm certain there would be close to 100% of the players wearing these items for safety, but there is not.
Well, we'll just have to disagree on that one. While I certainly see your point about your DD getting to an age where she has to make her own decisions, that's one mine doesn't get to make as long as she's under my roof and I'm paying for her to play.
Understood, and I don't disagree with your approach. Just a difference of raising kids in our own ways.
We did make her wear it when she was younger. She did it, but hated it every step of the way.
Btw, same goes for my HS Softball player. If she's playing one of the infield corners or 2B on a team that plays suicide D on slappers, she's wearing a mask. No choice until she's on her own.

I agree that girls at this age just want to fit in, but would they prefer to fit in "not wearing something they consider silly" or fitting in at the concussion clinic???
I've read a few other responses and every child/family/parenting is different. Luckily both my kids have no issues wearing it in their games.

I will say Horan is incredible...fantastic player and the only u.s. player on par technically with the top internationals. Lavelle and Pugh were also very good up until the last game, but after those three we looked to have very poor soccer IQ.
We should make Horan an advisor to us soccer and give her the reigns to start a true academy on the girls side. What we're doing now isn't working.

Re: U20 Women's World Cup
This is the U20 WC! Everyone plays to win each Tournament they play in, no doubt. But do you really think Brazil and Germany are building their Women's program to win the U20??
But we have all the answers here in NTX. Send our best Women to Europe. But wait, when JK pulled German players for the Men's team, we get on him for that..
This is how we do it in America!! You know, Education, College, dumb stuff like that.. Get use to it. Support it...

That's exactly why I think she's a great candidate. Think about it. U.S. Soccer is obviously looking to female coaches for leadership. Problem is all their choices have the same pedigree.
Horan is the only female player to have a professional pedigree in the key development years. PSG is up there with the best academies in the world. The rest of these coaches are NCAA products. Just 2 years at PSG, and it's clear she's on a different level, and probably has more she could teach u.s. women's soccer than the old guard that's been around for years.
It would be radical to have someone that young involved in leadership, but surely u.s. soccer has seen the writing on the wall, and has to do something about the rest of the world catching up and on the way to surpassing us. Especially considering we had a massive head start and are throwing many times more resources into it than anyone else.

For me it's not whether they win, but how they play.

I hear you.
In pure soccer terms, I think College is where the US slips, because College soccer is only from August to November each year. The rest of the world goes year round. An idea gaining momentum is to split the college season into a Fall half and a Spring half. I think that would help a great deal, while not sacrificing the college experience.
Myself, I have no problem being the soccer "underdog"... Sooner or later the US will have our "Miracle on the Pitch" moment...

Given that the US U20 national team has won the last two U20 World Cups, I think characterizing them as "underdogs" may be a bit of a stretch.
