Delusional Grandparents Disorder -- how many times do the parents, etc believe their grandchildren are also better than anyone else on the team, even if the parent believes they are a quality young athlete, they believe they are better than that.

Re: DPD: Delusional Parent Disorder
I have seen many players whose parents don't/can't make it to games, practice, etc. So if they have grandparent pride for their granddaughters, I think it is fine. I have seen far worse parents than grandparents.
Of course, you know that I am speaking from experience of the non-parental variety. However, my exception is that I love my DGD and while I know her strengths, I also know what her lesser abilities are. We talk about it before and after games. I cheer for her (loudly) as well as the other players on the team. I take that responsibility very seriously.
My GDD started playing at the age of 4. Since that time, I have missed only four games. Children need to know that they are appreciated, and supported.
Providing that is never wrong. Now, as to those parents and grandparents who yell at their players to take a girl out from the sidelines, or applaud vicious play, that I do have issues with just as I do when a coach says it (and I hear these types of comments almost every week).
If you need some grandmotherly support for your DD, just look me up and I will be glad to hang out at your game (as long as it isn't against my DGD).

They cheer, not coach, but cheer for their grandchildren very loudly, as well as usually, the entire team. A+ there

Isn't it great when you cheer loudly for a really good play and the girl looks over at you with a beaming smile....gotta love it! So let's get some more GPD at the games!!!

Ah, if only childhood and parenthood came with instructions and redact opportunities.Cobra_Kai wrote:So basically, parents make up where they messed up as a youth, and grandparents make up where they screwed up as parents.

I would say so. I have told my dd's that for me, at the end of the season, the ball went away until next year when season started again. Had I practiced in off season I would have been much better.... off course there is no off season with soccer in NTX.
