Birth Year Age Matrix update

This was posted to the Cal South website and is being discussed on the boys forum...

How do I determine the birth year used for a competition?
Birth year registration should be based on the year in which the season ends. For example, if a season begins in the fall of 2017 and ends in the summer of 2018 (ex: 2017-18 season), the players would be registered based on their age in the year 2018. Competitions that take place in a single year (ex: fall of 2018 only) should use that year to determine birth year. To simplify determining the age group, just subtract the birth year from the year the season ends.
Year Season Ends – Birth Year = Age Group:
2016-17 – 2005 = U12
2016-17 – 2006 = U11


So, I would inteprete a 2006 will be known as a U11 during the 2016-2017 Season. Does this make sense to anyone??

Well if 06AP is U11 next year we should get ready to sign that select contract perhaps.

Definition of “Free-Agent”: A free agent is a player in the U-11 through U-19 age division who desires to participate on a competitive team and is not rostered to any team. All players in the U-11 through U19 age divisions become free agents as of July 1. NOTE: The “free-agent” rule applies only to those players trying out or being selected for competitive teams. The rule does not apply to movement of players in the recreational leagues.

Don't be surprised to see a rule change to the NTX select age definition now.

It is what it is, either the updated one is wrong or its what we are looking at. Being that Cal South finally posted this to their site... Looks like NTX is just dragging their feet. There are squads that have already blown up that may not have because of the older chart.

Maybe we get lucky and NTSSA posts their own official release soon.

Gotta love the irony that the group that mandated the change to calendar year under the guise of helping to make our youth national teams more competitive couldn't even get the youth age groups correct to properly align with the youth national teams...

Gives me all the confidence in the world that they have US soccer heading in the right direction...
