So I heard it actually happened.

A team, I believe someone said DTS, put a field player on goal with bib and no gloves, when their goalie was sick, and actually WON two games, one of them being a semi-final game.

KC, I can now claim that I own you.......................if what I heard is true.

The player you speak of spent years playing goalie and in the field.. So not exactly a field player with zero experience...

Great kid and family I should add.

Confused ......this player plays backup goalie with no goalie training. Years in goal?  I don’t think so.   She is a field player who every coach she has had reaches out to her as a backup because she is an all around athlete. But she doesn’t show up at a tryout for goal. No goalie jersey/kit.

I said playing goalie and in the field... I did manage a team she played on previously... She is a phenomenal athlete and will do whatever is asked of her.

Make it a negative if you want. Not how I meant it.

And great job to her on the saves this past weekend. I was stuck at IBER and couldn't make it to watch.

No negativity......I just read it as she played in goal for years.  Maybe I read it wrong.   You are correct she is a great kid!

@KC, now that ATP has backtracked, albeit a bit, and the 06SouthGirl has provided more ammunition on my initial assertion that she is a field player just thrown in to play goalie, I think I have the right to go back and claim.......... I own YOU.

For a good measure, I think I own the OK Energy FC dad too............ cheers

Post by KeeperCommander 02/04/18, 09:05 pm

Pele there is a huge difference in a field player that you just “put in goal” with a bib and one that has played in goal numerous times over the past several years for different teams. When I say numerous I mean a large amount of minutes. She has warmed up as a keeper before and sometimes only sees the field as a keeper, but yes I would classify this particular DD as a field player that is very athletic. Huge difference between that and an orange cone don’t you think? Now let’s turn our attention to the last sentence of my couple week old quote in this thread. “A good keeper is no substitute for a good defense.” A great keeper behind a subpar defense might get you a few more saves per contest but it will not save you in the long run.
No one has backtracked or changed any tune to what was said. That’s absurd.

Great team no doubt, but have the majority of them ever played competitively for anyone else?  I've seen first hand coaches get more out of some of his players when they left than they showed while on his teams.

And the last I heard, his highest USSF license was D.  Unless he's earned his C, and then his B in the past year or so, he still isn't eligible to coach in USSDA.  I think the better question would be if the A Bros are even with Texans next year ...

Isn’t that true of most/all kids at this age? Hearing the same message from the same coach Year after year gets stale. As long as the coach you go to is worth a damn, it should be nothing but positive regardless of where you came from.

DT South was awarded a U12 Boys DA spot last month. Sal was listed as Director of Coaching in the announcement. Wouldn't that require the proper license?

Caught several of these games over the weekend.

The gaps between levels or leagues is not as great as people like to think.

Deciding games with Penalty Kicks is rediculous in every way. Pointless, no matter if its U7 on a Saturday or a FIFA World Cup.

Agree except time can cause big problems. I do not want to win or lose through penalties however I would also not like to arrive for a game and discover backup at the fields due to overtime. Double edge sword if you ask me.

Any chance that the reason so many of the playoff matches went to pens was due to the kids playing only half a game ?

Quarters, Semis and Finals were not full time games but were shortened 5-10 mins from what the DIGC full time games were supposed to be.

well....i guess that leaves some with no closure and the next chance to see some good ECNLvsDA match-ups may not come again until a year from now. Sucks don't it?! The usual suspects won though in all age groups, guess a full game would just be a bit more interesting.

Tough tournaments are about who plays the best under the circumstances. Shortened games, weather, long drives to get to dry fields plus tough teams were all part of the circumstances. Rolling Eyes

Yep KC ... they sure are.  And the sky is blue, grass is green ... etc.

Just happens to be my contention that a full time match would've made things less interesting.  I'm sure many of you will disagree just because, but I believe that shorter matches are actually detrimental to the stronger teams.  For any match you saw that went to pens, the most likely result would've been a 1 goal win by the stronger team.  Any result you saw that was 1-0, would've more likely been a 2 or 3-0 final.
