D’Feeters Voutier can be defeated/tied if you have a strong defense and keeper. That has made the difference with Scarfone, SS and Colvin. If your team doesn’t have both, forget it, you don’t have a chance with them. You will be in for a good whooping!!

Sting Spence is the old Liverpool Hyppia team.

Solar Austin is the old Solar Nichols team. I’m pretty sure there isn’t a Solar Nichols white team anymore.

Does anyone know why FC Dallas Xtreme is in the silver division in Plano Labor Day

I would imagine Xtreme asked to be there. They got rolled in the top division of their last full tourney. Premier Copa I believe it was. I’m pretty sure their best players got moved when they joined the FCD family or they inherited some from the other teams that were not ready for that level of play.

Are you talking about Summer Splash?

League Challenge Cup, losses to Colvin, ESC and Samba (1-7). Maybe they are testing the waters. That is the only reason I could see spirit moving up and xtreme being in 2nd division. Just speculation on my part.

There are teams ranked way higher than xtreme and they are playing Gold. Xtreme is 11. Some of these teams are over 20

Yea, it's odd that Austin and Covey are in gold.

I guess we never really know everything that is going on and why teams end up in the divisions that they do - it could be that Austin and Covey have picked up a couple girls and so they think they are ready for gold, or maybe Xtreme is missing one of their better players this weekend so decided to play down...in some cases I think that the move to 9v9 is testing the depth of a few teams...

Covey has always been in gold. They may have had a rough spring if you strictly look at W/L records, but from what I can remember their games were all pretty competitive...tying or losing by 1 or 2 to several of the top 5 teams. Just my opinion, but they are a gold team.

Covey has been competitive in Gold so would expect to see them there. Would also expect to see extreme there to, but who knows. As Socc said, perhaps going to 9v9 has some teams struggling with depth.

Xtreme likes to win so they could be playing silver because a few of their better players are not available this tournament or it could be they just want to win. They have a competitive team for 9v9... just look at their results from the Summer Splash tournament that was canceled. They could have won their bracket depending on the results of their 3rd game that was rained out. They also signed up for silver in the Solar Premier Cup that had a weaker gold division to begin with... that tournament was canceled too after one game.

To me, tournament directors should require teams to play the correct division unless a team has a very good excuse. It’s not good for the team’s development and it’s not good for the teams that have to play them.

Good points. I'm not familiar with the behind-the-scenes coordination between coaches/managers and tourney schedulers. I have always assumed tourneys want to create the most competitive groups/brackets possible that provide the best value for their clients, the teams. Can anyone share what kind of interaction there is between teams and tourney schedulers to set the groups, etc.? I guess it makes sense to make adjustments if a team knows they're missing some key players. Just curious about the process.

I can think of at least one example of when, if I were the coach of a team, I might elect to play down a level occasionally - say your team is like the #8 or #9 team in North Texas, which means you have a very solid team and a group of girls that are playing excellent soccer (don't forget that there are over 100 ranked teams in FBR). However, if you always just play the top 7 or 8 teams (during the season and in every tournament), you are likely going to lose 80% of your games, despite the fact that you actually have one of the best teams in the area. I could see how that would get a bit old after a while (including for the girls). So I wouldn't blame a coach for electing to play down in a tournament or two or three every year to let the girls win some games and perhaps work on some things that can be difficult to work on when you are constantly playing teams that are better than you and you are just trying to keep up. The stronger silver teams play very good soccer but usually just aren't as deep or don't have any superstars like you would find on the top 7 teams, so it's not like your team can't continue to improve by winning some games against that level of competition once in a while.

I think DFeeters have always been in the boys group. There were 23 teams and they added Prosper Elite a couple of days ago to make an even 24.

With DFeeters Voitier playing boys I would think the Gold division for the girls could be won by almost anyone...
