Re: 07 ECNL
- Texans is a better team than Sting Austin, but they will struggle against Sting Dallas.
- I was under the impression that FCD has a lot of new parts with some important pieces leaving to Solar/Sting Royal. As such, I'd probably put them neck and neck with Sting Dallas.
- I think there's a line between the cream of the crop after Sting Royal.
- Solar
- DKSC
- Sting Royal
- ...
- TSC / FCD / Sting Dallas
- Albion
- Texans
- Sting Austin
- Challenge
- Classics Elite

Assuming you then agree that DKSC and Royal are in the top tier (since you only took issue with Solar and not those two), who then replaces Solar in your top tier? Or is it just those two?

Patience Centex, Patience. Games are right around the corner, let's see how things play out. Stop trying to "call" it, just like people do with elections and the stock market..people are usually wrong! I believe you're in STX as well, so you probably don't have a close eye on how things have evolved in NTX. Either way, we finally have all the teams and girls in the same league playing against one another, so sit back, relax and enjoy the ride (unless your DD is part of the GA then you should just immerse yourself in that instead)

I can read the standings in a month, but what fun is that? Much more interesting to hear and discuss why you think Solar is overrated or who you think may be the Champions League favorites.

TSC was on track to finish top 2 last year, so not sure any TSC win over anybody would be considered an upset. They are very good, and should be even better this year as they apparently had a few key pickups from Energy. The 07s might be TSCs best team this year.
Any update on how Texans and FCD and Sting Royal looked last weekend? They all are said to have had the most offseason movement and newish starting 11s.

Your turn.
Someone please take a screenshot of this and come back to Timmyh when it's all over...wonder how he called the 07 age group results last season.
Last year I said DKSC would dominate ECNL (100% correct) and Solar and FCD would duke it out for tops in DA (FCD deservedly ran away with it, but still largely correct).
This year I think DKSC and Solar are near locks to make Champions League, with Royal, TSC, and FCD fighting it out for the other two Champions League spots. Albion and Sting Black to play spoiler with a chance to to surprise. I will guess Challenge and Sting Austin slot in behind those 7. Then Texans, and then CE nudges out Celtic, who finish bottom of the table.
How did you call it last year? How about this year?

DKSC vs FCD (#1 ECNL vs #1 DA)
TSC vs Solar (#2 ECNL vs #2 DA)
Black vs Royal (#3 ECNL vs a good mix of ex-DA girls)
Just one game early in the season, but may provide some hints as to how things might shake out.

Good slate of interesting games.
For the sake of the poor girls who may have to bear Tatu's wrath, I hope Sting Black pulls the upset.
TSC is better than many give credit for and they got better this offseason. At home against a Solar team still apparently integrating some pieces, they will be hoping for a good result.
FCD may be weakened a bit from last year, but DKSC just lost to Energy and tied Dash the past couple of weeks. Even a weakened FCD is better than either of those two teams. If DKSC has plans for challenging four the title this year, they better win this one.
Will be rooting for DKSC, Black, and TSC to pull out results that weekend, if only because if Solar and FCD and Royal come away with wins in week one over the top 3 teams in ECNL from last year, it likely means it's going to be a very long season with some lopsided scores for those teams that finished in the bottom half of the ECNL conference last year, and nobody wants that.

Re: 07 ECNL
DKSC 1
FCD 1 - Two teams who won their leagues on the trot last year and had wildly different offseasons. DKSC basically running back the same group that had national title hopes canceled this summer, while FCD integrating a lot of new starters after the departure of a well-liked coach. Neither fully impressed in their preseason results (though easy win for DKSC last week at Celtic in the ECNL season kickoff), but winner will come away with title hopes.
Sting Royal 2
Sting Black 1 - Black returns basically the same group that finished top 3 last year against a brand new team made up of some of FCD's best and a lot of former Texans (and a former PDA) building out the roster.
Solar 3
TSC 1 - Two teams who finished a solid 2nd in their league last year. Solar should be a more balanced team than the past, with new additions from FCD and Lonestar replacing top two goalscorers. Tulsa got better with some additions from Energy, but it may not be quite enough this weekend.
Texans 2
Celtic 1 - Celtic should be a bit better than last year with a few new additions from Energy. Texans are nothing like last year with basically the entire DA team scattering for greener pastures. The former FCD 2nd team who filled the Texans spot was good, but not all players followed. Loser looks likely to battle Classics Elite for last place.
Challenge 2
Classics Elite 0 - Both better than last year. CE with a good pickup from Lonestar, but Challenge also picked off a few from Dash. Don't think CE has enough firepower to pull this one out.
Albion 2
Sting Austin 1 - There's a whole bunch of new starters for Sting (from Lonestar), but some questions about where the goals will come from. Albion returns most of the same team from last year (also with a few additions from Dash). Perhaps the most important game of the weekend as the winner will have designs on a Champions League spot and the loser will have an uphill battle.
Good luck to all. Everybody have fun and stay healthy. Stoked that the girls are getting to play.

Texans won handily. Going to be a very, very long season for Celtic.
Heard the FCD/DKSC game was a slugfest. Lots of fouls and cards (told the difference in the game was the DKSC forward, who is a handful and had a hand in both goals).
Very good result for TSC. Heard they scored early and just barely hung on (told Solar had 20+ more shots and a late missed pk).
So it looks like a pretty good start for the returning ECNL teams vs the ex-DA teams. Monday's Black vs Royal game should be a good one.

There is a bug in the TGS site (shocker). So it isn’t allowing managers to enter scores.

Re: 07 ECNL
TSCs top forward and goal scorer was a DNP due to injury.
TSC played the last 14 minutes of the game without their top midfield player due to concussion protocol. 10 of those minutes were 10v11 and the last 4 was 11v11 with the backup GK playing up top.
That being said, the Solar 07 team is as advertised. They are loaded with talent and athleticism. I was super impressed.
The first half, Solar was just mostly outplayed until about 10-5 minutes left in the half without any memorable shots. After that is when the TSC's technical play began to break down somewhat. Fatigue was definitely a factor. The TSC corner kick goal was as good as you will find at this age group, IMO. Someone posted a video of it. Take a look
The second half Solar goal came about 45 seconds into the second half, and appeared to catch the TSC defense disorganized and not ready to start the half. There's not much other way to explain it besides that. The second half was more of a grit and heart game from TSC, with Solar clearly being the aggressor. Without much question, TSC was just scrambling to hold on. They did have a few good counter attack attacks off of the aggressive Solar high press. They (TSC) were not yet conditioned for this type of opponent, and as the half wore on, the technical side broke down into a good bit of scramble and fair amount of "clearing the ball". That being said, the estimation of the 20+ shots more is an overstatement. They had more shots for sure, but nowhere near that many quality shots. TSC had at least a similar amount of quality shots. Solar did miss a PK, that is true. However, there were 2 terrible off sides calls, one that led to a TSC goal being wiped off that wasn't even close. The player was well on sides, took advantage of Solar's very aggressive high press, beat the last defender easily and was in for the score which got taken. This was a clear miscall. TSC also had a distance shot towards the end that just... JUST missed the corner of the goal with the keeper well away. There was also a clear red card not pulled for a TSC player on a breakaway and fouled from behind by the defender (no play on the ball) with no other defenders between the goal. It all is what it is, calls either way are part of the game, there were just several huge calls in this one. You can't control these. The game could have went either way, really.
I have no input on Solar personnel, but the TSC team did show lots of heart just holding on. Do I think TSC was fortunate to get a tie, absolutely... given the personnel challenges they faced, but I'm pretty sure Solar had a good bit of relief that it was only a tie. This is going to be a long hard fought league. Looking forward to it!
