I agree coaches should stick with developing THEIR team (girls who pay to play and girls who come to practice eachw week). Most of the time guest players do not pay or practice with the team and this causes ill feelings and it is not good overall for the team morale. If you simply don't have enough girls to play and need help fielding a team, that is a different situation, but just adding girls to win while girls who come to every practice ride the bench is not right. This happens frequently with several different coaches-parents should do their homework and not play for these coaches -if they have a problem with guest playing. Guest playing (most of the time) is just a huge recruitment tactic, parents feel great bc their dd is getting some recognition. The coach would simply like their business full time. All part of the game.

Blitzed, put your feelings of pride aside, and imagine what the 9 year old girl feels like when she has to sit on the bench because a girl she has never seen before is now playing instead of her...and to borrow your words, in a 9 year old game that is so unimportant. I will take it even one step further. Let's say you buy tickets to go see the Rangers this season....right behind home plate, 4 rows back. You can smell the pine tar from your seats. Then about the 3rd inning, the usher comes down and tells you that you have to move because Jerry Jones and his family would like your seats. So the usher redirects to the nose bleed section and not only does he not care that you just got screwed, but he expects you to be fine with it.

This happens every week with some teams. Paying customers of academy soccer get Jerry Jones'ed every weekend. If you are concerned that your daughter is playing for the wrong team, go to another teams practice...not a game!

My pride? We aren't talking about my daughter here. I generally do not have my daughter guest play although I see nothing wrong with the practice.

What we are talking about North Texas soccer. Recruiting goes with the territory. I know how it feels when better players come along and push your kid down in the pecking order. It is a reality of competitive sports and there are very few players who will not experience it at some point in their career.

If I had to guess, I would say you are going through this process for the first time. Trust me when I tell you that if your dd is going to get benched when a guest player comes along, this is information you want to have now, during academy soccer when you are free to look around instead of just after you signed a 1 year contract.

Blitzed, the reason I have come to my conclusion on guest play is because my daughter was the guest player that ate up playing time from another teams players. Believe me, I am not trying to brag and say that my daughter is the best player in the league or even on her team. What I am saying is that, a dad called and said his daughters coach was wondering if my daughter would like to play in a tournament with them. He explained they were short players for the weekend and needed players. Since my daughters team was not playing that weekend and her coach was ok with it, we went ahead and did it. Sounds peachy, right? Well, Saturday the team infact needed my daughter. She was the only sub. But for the championship game on Sunday there were 6 subs. My daughter did not start in the Championship, but was put in after 5 minutes and played the rest of the game. My wife and I felt horrible. Those 6 girls sitting on the bench had gone to practice and worked hard with the team, and then my daughter comes along and takes their playing time. I aksed the coach after the game, why she played my daughter so much, and she said it was the Championship game, she was going to play the best players, the ones that gave her the best chance to win. I know everyone is different, but I seriously don't understand how people think this situation is ok. If you want your daughter to get more touches on the ball, don't take her to another team and steal those girls touches. Take her out in the yard and kick the ball around with her.

So..... Ummmmm. I hate to spoil all the discussions in regards to guest playing etc, but anyone have an idea on when we could start talking about the "positives" in '02 soccer? Maybe we could all just have an opinion on our own rankings? Why some people think Rowdies, Webb, DT, etc are the best '02s.

I hope we can all agree to disagree and just move on.

By the way.... SRSA '03 and Solar Red '03 coached by Kat Webb and Derek Missimo are looking to add a few more players to both teams.

Nope, don't need '02s. Just looking for a few athletic girls to join our team.

Additionally trying to move on to another subject.

Perhaps a good topic starter should be started on an 03 thread,-since you are 03's .

Considering SRSA only competes against '02s(with the exception of DT South) , I think this thread will do me just fine.

I think what he means is.....since you are recruiting for 03's you might start the thread over their.....recruiting for 03's in a 02 forum won't get you as many hits for you. If you want 02's on your team than this would be appropriate!

Exactly what I meant-won't have much luck netting an 03 on an 02 thread. BTW several teams play up, the difference is not all teams that play up feel the need to hi-jack threads and make comments on subjects unpertaining to them. I don't see Defeeters 03 or Juven.03 or DT South 03 parents on here or Rowdies 02 parents on the 01 thread, constantly trying to brag on their team or rank themselves with the older age group or spouting on about which 02 team they could dominate. We all know you have a good team..............Congratulations.

My apologies in regards to try and recruit from the '02 thread. Merely trying to change the subject. BTW, I do not believe I have ever come on here and bragged about who we have dominated in the '02 field. We are 1-3 in division 1. Competing well? Yes. Dominating? No.
