Great run Lady Marauders. You went up against a much larger school and almost pulled off a victory! Good luck at state Plano West. The Wolves should win state since their school is twice as large as anybody else's. It is truly amazing what a school with class sizes twice as large as most everyone they play can do.........lol

Bend Austin and Deer Park in the second round looks to be a good one as well as potential 2nd round matchup between Cy Fair and Houston Memorial.

Region 4: I'm guessing that the winner of this district will likely be San Antonio Reagan over Cibolo Steele. Reagan should more than hold their own in the state tournament.

Other's thoughts?

Pretty close I guess...had most of the teams that were left in the end at least mentioned as possibilities Smile

Region 1 goes to Plano West of District 8-5A;
Region 2 goes to Klein Oak
Region 3 goes to Katy Seven Lakes
Region 4 (sorry...way off) goes to San Antonio Churchill.

Great job to all 4 teams. Congrats on Regional wins and best of luck at state tourney. I'm biased to district 8-5A so will predict and hope for North Texas success and a Plano West state title. Go Lady Wolves! I'm thinking it will be Klein Oak and Plano West in the final game. Others thoughts?

Sadly, Lewisville ISD has started opening 9th grade centers just like PISD. Pretty soon we'll have 1,200 plus kids classes at all our LISD high schools! Then it will be interesting in sports, no more unfair advantage for the Planos and Allen. No more sour grapes then, just a fair game. GO GIANT PLANO SCHOOLS!!!!!!

You know you're embarrassing yourself with this crap, right? Marcus held their own this year with everyone, and even beat Plano West in district play.

I doubt their players are whining like you are.

Good game ... 2 very evenly matched teams that split in district play. Not to take anything away from our girls, but I think PW somehow ended up with a good schedule to the regional final. I think Southlake was tougher than Fossil Ridge, and Arlington was certainly tougher than El Paso ... who knows?

Marcus scored 2 with wind ... PW scored 2 with wind. No one scored in OT. PW had a stout Keeper and fortune smiled on them.

As the game wore on, I think the effect of yesterday's Marcus OT and tough game against Arlington really showed. Arlington contested every single ball all the way to the final tick of OT. Plano West was able to play most of their bench yesterday.

I was a bit surprised today that the Marcus coach didn't dig into their bench deeper in the OT and the end of regulation as it became obvious that top 15 were completely gased.

No matter what happens from here, it's been a fun ride for parents and kids.

As for the whiny school size guy ... isn't this why UIL has 5A, 4A, 3A Etc. ?

Under his theory Plano East should rule the high school soccer world as they have the biggest school by far ... Plano and Allen aren't far behind Plano East and all 3 finished in the bottom half of our district. Plano West is smaller than all three of those schools.

If it helps, we can crown your school (what school is that?) Regional 4 1/2 A Champs ... hell, we'll give ya 4 1/2 A State champs!

Like "in the net" I don't think this is a Marcus fan ... maybe a fan from a neighboring school?

Just for Grins ... The Facts on Size (9-12) and Soccer finish in district are:

Plano E ...... 6,171 (#6)
Plano ........ 5,240 (#7)
Allen ........ 5,049 (#5)
Plano W ...... 4,190 (#3)
Lewisville ... 3,573 #8
Flower Mound.. 3,170 (#1)
Marcus....... 3,107 (#2)
Hebron ....... 2,857 (#4)

In the example of our district, the whiny guy's theory clearly doesn't hold out.

The 3 smallest schools finished in the top 4 (and made the tournament) and the three largest schools finished in the bottom 4 (and did not make the tournament).

Since school size is measured 9-12, the opening of 9th grade centers has no bearing in the discussion.

Nice run for the Lady Marauders...Congrats to the West girls...as stated above, PW certainly had what seemed an easier road to get there. With that being said, they finished when they had to. It will be interesting to see the all district team out of 8-5A... had alot of girls not play the whole season we'll see if/how that effects the coaches voting... Oh and one final note on the Regional Final, it would have shown just a "little" class had the PW players congratulated their opponets after the game as opposed to doing cheers with the fans!

Is there really an "easy" rode to the Region 1 final? No matter which way you go, you're facing teams ranked in the top 10 in the state.

I don't understand all the whining about Plano West. They played the teams that were put in front of them (and from a #3 district seed at that).

Its not like there was some sort of master plan in place to get easier opponents that anyone else.

Mailman - It seems that sportsmanship is not taught/reinforced by parents/coaches. Great observation, however PW is no different than most other High School programs.

I don't get it either...West took on all comers and beat at least 4 very solid teams to win Region, namely Fossil Ridge, Grapevine, Flower Mound and Marcus. They fought from behind against Flower Mound (my affiliation) and Marcus. They deserve huge credit imho...not critiques because of school size or because they didn't play Carroll head-to-head (the only potentially more difficult team that they didn't play. )

I agree that sportsmanship is lacking on ALL teams (yes, even ours). It's a sad commentary on our culture and the excessive amount of trash-talking that now happens at all levels of sports...to the point of thuggery sometimes. A very fine line between being aggressive/competitive and being a very poor sport.

That being said...I know many of the girls on West and know them to have good sportsmanship. I wasn't there, but I'm sure it was an unfortunate event caused by them getting caught up in the moment after a very long & competitive game as well as the excitement of winning Region.

After the deciding save of the shoot-out, the Plano West girls went wild and ran to a pile in the middle of the field ... 5 minutes later after the emotion of the moment died down, the Plano West girls went to the Marcus girls and shook hands.

As a matter of fact, my daughter went beyond shaking hands and hugged 3 Marcus players that she had played select/pre-select with in the past.

I think the Marcus girls probably needed the time to compose themselves just as much as Plano West needed the time to scream and cheer.

The only thing classless is your inaccurate description of the post-game and your sour grapes.

Way to do it West. I was pulling for Marcus all the way in this since they knocked our girls out, but that's why they play the games. Now let there be club drama in absence of high school soccer!

Apparently, the UIL doesn't adhere to the matchups they put out on their playoff brackets??? The original brackets (which seemed to make some sense so as to avoid a semifinal between just North Texas teams or South Texas teams) showed the winner of Region 1 playing the winner of Region 3. Now, the state tournament schedule is showing Region 1 (Plano West) set to play Region 2 (Klein Oak) and Region 3 vs. Region 4 in the semis.

If I were Plano West or Klein Oak, I would be extremely upset (although I don't know that it would do any good). West and Oak are clearly the best two teams of the 4 and shouldn't be playing until the final. How does this happen and why? Anyone?

P.S. It looks like they did exactly the opposite in Class 4-A with the same result..(switched from pairings on original brackets...Region 1 vs. 2 and Region 3 vs. 4...to where now it is Region 2 vs. 3 (Again...the best 2 teams in Highland Park and Waco Midway) and Region 1 vs. 4. I don't get it... Question

See you next year in the playoffs and in our darn district again in two years..........
