5A Playoff Regional Predictions - Girls

I know girls/families on both Marcus & Plano West, so I'll take the diplomatic path and pick either to win district 1...and then the state championship.

District 2 should go to Klein Oak; District 3 to Fort Bend Clements (although Cinco Ranch is still a darkhorse); District 4 to San Antonio MacArthur.

Klein Oak vs. Marcus/Plano West in the state final (although for my money...last night's Marcus v Southlake Carroll likely could/should have been a state final...right Loco?)

It's been this way in high school for a long time. There are definitely some different rules for high school. Event THAT is different. In high school they are "rules" where everywhere else they are "laws".

Another of the differences is that a ball that doesn't come in on a throw in goes the other direction. The coach of Denton High School likes to take credit for that rule change. He said he used it as a stalling tactic so much that the other coaches all complained and they changed the rule. :-)

You guys have seen more of the 8-5A games than I have but I was not that impressed with Plano West in their game against Flower Mound that decided the championship. I know that was only one game, and one that they lost, so I am sure I am missing something.

I know when I saw the Marcus/Coppell playoff game I was very impressed with Marcus. I felt they were the strongest team I had seen all season. The game against Carroll did nothing but confirm my thoughts.

I am picking Marcus to go all the way. If they do win, they should have something to say in the ESPN national ranking that have already been given to the CA school. They have had the hardest path so far in the playoffs and have met each of their challenges. Now if they also beat Plano West that would be another top ranked opponent. Too bad Boyd lost or they could have added to their great wins if they won that game as well.

Carroll had their chances. Marcus scored the goal to tie with just over a minute left in regulation. Carroll had their chances in the dribble ups but could not convert (Carroll shot 2nd).

Again, it is too bad that so many good teams had to play each other early on and had to go home. At least next year the districts are switched up and maybe there won't be so many early matchups of great teams.

I like the rule where a player who is issued 2 yellows = soft red, is removed from the game but the coach is allowed to sub and continue game with 11.

Ref'd UIL 1 year (and one year only) and any player receiving a yellow had to leave the field until the next sub-in. In certain boy's districts where athleticism, strength and hormones far exceeded technical ability, a very useful rule to maintain control. Very useful.

Sachse over Georgetown (2-1) is confirmed. Also, Klein Oak beat A&M Consolidated 1-0 in overtime. Region 2-5A final set for tomorrow with Sachse vs. Klein Oak at 11:00am @ Round Rock's Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex.

Isn't it great that the Dallas area teams get to travel all the way to BFE to play each other? Really, UIL, who gives a damn about the west texas teams, they're cannon fodder. Move the regional playoffs back to North Texas. In fact, the state finals should be in North Texas as well, because the teams coming from South Texas would be middle of the pack in 7 5A and 8 5A
