Need referral for pediatric neurologist for sports concussion

Almost 14 yr old gk got kicked in head in LHGCL match on 11/11, still severe headaches upon waking each day. Already diagnosed with concussion but now seeking a specialist- please let me know if you know a top notch specialist. Thank you.

Ben Hogan Concussion center is where my daughter has gone. She has been at the Fort Worth location but they also have one in Dallas.

If she is not already taking anything, they have told me to have my dd take Tylenol for the first couple days, then after that alternate Tylenol and advil every 4-6 hours, along with plenty of rest, no computers, tv, cell phone. Also take fish oil every day.

When you visit, they will also give a note for school to extend time needed to take a test, or to rest every other class if the headaches are severe, or even just stay home.

Her '00 went through a very bad concussion a couple of years ago, and she shared a bunch of stuff on the forum about the whole process. I don't think I'm overstepping my bounds in suggesting that she will be a helpful resource for you on this.

DD suffered a severe concussion last year. She not only got kicked in the head but directly in her eye. I agree with everything golgolgol has said, but we were told to use tylenol with caffeine in it. The caffeine helps to constrict the blood vessels. Also to let them sleep as much as they want, it heals the brain. We didn't go to Ben Hogan but have heard very good things about the clinic. We actually used Dr Karen Kirk, she is based in the Fort Worth area. It is very important that all electronics are not used, no reading and anything that makes the brain work for a week usually. Sunglasses and hat when having to be outside. It is very hard for the kids because it feels like a punishment to them. Also depending on the location of contact you may want to see a pediatric specialist in eye care. DD not only had the concussion but damaged optic nerves, she was blind for a week in the one eye and a day or two in both, then had trouble seeing at night for awhile. The headaches continued for about two months, towards the end she woke with pressure in her head which then turned into a headache. Nothing showed on her CT scans and it took about 2 1/2 months for full improvement.

Mine is a goalkeep also. Lots of prayers for the young lady, hope she's back in no time!
