OK peeps, it is high time we moved on from CPP to our next most popular poll question. So how many teams do you think will bite the dust at the end of the season? How many teams do you think will still be around AFTER July 1? Will your team be one of the lost?

Let's hear from you all

My guess is there will be at least 4-5 teams less in the 00 group next year. That's counting LH,PPL and Arlington. I've heard of two teams that probably won't be back, one on the verge of breakup and the other the coach already disclosing that he wasn't coaching next year. Info is secondhand so dont want to say team names if that isn't the case. This group saw a lot of movement last year, will be interesting to see if there is more of the same. Were girls happy with their move? Do they feel their team is on the same path they want to be on? With HS next year, will they stick with soccer or focus on studies/ another sport? So many questions come into play that will affect how many teams stay intact and how many fizzle out. Good question InaB!

Way too early for this question.  Players/Parents still have to complete the season and tournaments.  Although people already know what they're doing for next year I doubt if they'll step out of the plank as of yet!

Hi Mid, my guess is that at this point probably all of the bottom teams are thinking of qualifying at this point. The big sticking point will be whether they survive and have enough players come July 1 signing day. The same could be said for PPL and Arlington teams. And then, you have those teams that don't make it into LH. Will they stay together and play in Plano or will they fold?

And yes Its Me (and good to see you), I know that technically it is too soon to ask where the teams will be at this point. No parent on a team wants to tip their hand just yet.  However, we can speak in numbers. Just by rules alone, there will be a reduction in D1 from 9 to 8 next year. So that gives us one less team in LH at the get go.

So how many teams in the 00 age group are there between LH, PPL, and Arlington? And how many of those do we think can survive? To mom's point, there are a lot more issues to deal with for next year than there were for this year. There was a bit of push and pull this year with Middle School athletics. How many girls will stay in Select versus school sports and activities? Will girls decide to leave out of burn out? Will girls decide to leave athletic pursuits altogether? Will there be a significant drop in select talent? These are my burning questions.  Very Happy

To answer your # of teams question...

78 total teams.....30 LH (9-D1, 10-D2, 11-D3), 31 PPL (10- D1, 11-D2, 10-D3) and 17 API (all D1....started fall season with 19 and 2 teams dropped out over the winter break).

To compare to this years U15 group, there are 70 total teams.

It drops down even more in the U16s...only 57 total teams

Thanks Mom! That gives us a picture of what we could look like going into next season. It appears that attrition will be an issue as the girls go along. I am assuming that much of the changes are a natural progression then of player interests changing.

If you add the 5 ECNL teams that makes the total  83

True Seven....I did not account for ECNL in any of the age brackets.

Thanks Seven, that could well account for a few more players out of the mix when those teams experience changes. I love it when we all work together for the greater good!  Cool

We would not want to hurt the ECNL teams feelings now would we?

If teams are disbanding, the follow-up question is where are those teams' players going? Which teams are on the rise and are a favored destination? Every coach out here can use better players regardless of where they came from.

I would assume ECNL and top D1 & D2 teams don't have a monopoly on the top players! Since everyone knows it all starts with the coach, who are the best coaches?

I've been wondering for the last 6 months, how long has the present LH's system been in place? Specifically, the decreasing # of teams in D1 as the girls get older.  I understand the reason is to keep the quality high. I'm curious if anyone thinks that the current system is a little outdated and unnecessary or is the culling of D1 still needed to keep the quality high?  Anybody have an opinion on this?

The present system is actually expanded from what it used to be. They used to combine the top few teams in U15 with the top few in U16, then U17 with U19. Keeping a bye in that format was tough.

My question is how many ECNL players will be returning to LH after not getting an abundant amount of playing time?

Hi Its Me, do you think that there could be an equalizer (numbers wise) between girls who move out of ECNL and those who move up to ECNL? And, if the girls who move back down to upper division teams (making an assumption here that the girls would not want to drop lower) will their experience change the D1 dynamics?
