Congrats for a good weekend for coach and his team; well played.
Complete BS!...I am honestly a little frustrated by this. Here is the REAL truth...
We had our ONE pulp guest who has been with us all season...Their backup GK. And she has been LIGHTS OUT! We have already covered that in the CPP posts, so I won't go back...NO other pulp player has been out with us at all in any other game. Not in league, not in tournaments. NONE.
Our other guests include players from Solar Silver (a PPL team), and one who plays on another D2 who used to play for us. We love the girls and are very happy to have them, but if we hadn't taken on some recent injuries, I am not sure we would have had any guests except for the GK.
We have actually played short of a full roster for basically the entire tournament...we did have a healthy 18 on Wednesday when we beat Sting Royal Brown/Harr. We only had 14 healthy yesterday after one of our starting backs was injured 3 minutes into the game (our win over NM), and only 16 healthy today v. World Class...minus 2 starters. Again, NO Pulp. That would have helped, but they are playing with Solar ECNL I think...
SG just played hard.
To be the underdog team that is surprising people by actually showing up to play and making the most of the opportunity is exactly what our girls hoped to do. It makes NO difference to our dds that they are apparently inferior players (according to the haters). They are having a blast playing with house money...
And even if they go through and get hammered in the next round...that is what everyone expected right? So they will do what they always do...go as hard as they can, and try to make their opponents earn every inch of it...for 70 minutes...then shake hands and be gracious.
The funny thing to me is that posters who clearly haven't been watching this team play enough to know our roster, and are consistently surprised by their success. I take it as a badge of honor that all those teams continue to look past us...Ask yourself why does SG seem to gut out "surprising" wins over "superior" teams consistently? Could it be that they are actually not THAT bad?
Think about this when a girl with a hard-nosed, never-say-die attitude shows up at a tryout for your beloved dd's team. Do you want those gutty players who fight the entire time...or is it not pretty enough...and you are worried that yours will lose her spot.
Frustrating to hear some of this from people who should have figured it out by now...not just the one I responded to, but several others on this topic. We won't apologize for doing what we can to advance and win games. Sorry to disappoint you.
Here is my thought on the game today...
The forward from WCFC is truly a special player, but they were all fast and good. Whether SG makes it through or not, it has been a great tournament for the girls. Off the soap box for now. As you were.

I didn't see this until my long post. Thanks for the positive comment, and if you watched us play, then you didn't see Pulp guests...

Moving on, the WC player is crazy outstanding; their whole team is fun to watch. If anyone gets a chance, they're worth going to see.

SG parents are proud we all get it, we are all proud of our kids. Some are just quieter with their pride then others. You put yourself out there on a public forum, expect mixed reactions.

1: standing with several observers in the corner of the fields the question was asked about a few players; the comment was made about the guests from Pulp so that's where it originated. I have since apologized to Do3
2: guests don't always work in these environments; sting Royal had a couple from Sting 00 and it didn't necessarily improve their performance this week. Interested to hear how the NM turns out

Non-ECNL teams that hang with ECNL teams should be commended. In my opinion it says a lot.

Who me? I didn't mean to twist their tail... in fact, its a fine tail and I don't have a problem with the tail...beast wrote:Ok so the info was bad. SG is a good team and had a very good tourney, they certainly surprised many. Personally I don't think that using guest keepers is as big of an impact, so I don't see it as a big deal.

I've seen this SG team play a few times this year, including this week. I think I understand why people don't quite believe the scoreboard. How does this big, lanky junkyard dog keeps winning races? When I look at some of the other dogs in the race, especially, the higher ranked ones, they're usually pure breeds or a better quality of dog that look like they belong in the race: some are bigger, some are faster, some are meaner, more graceful. In this weekend's case, ALL of the teams were 'all of the above'. Its really kind of hard to understand how that junkyard dog wins (barely, most of the time) so many races... and what were they thinking getting into this week's race!?
Please allow me to enlighten my forum brethren (Background music begins-"wind beneath my wings"): The dog is tough, it runs faster than you think; it bites down on another dog and doesn't let go for the whole race. It wins hard, and makes you win hard. Regardless of what you do, that dog ain't letting go of you. You can chew a leg or ear off, but its not letting you go until either your team drags it across the finish line or it drags you across. That's why they have so many injuries... every week, four good legs or not, it shows up, bites down and starts over (music ends).
That beat-up, SG dog just had 3 matches this week against faster, bigger, stronger, better pedigreed dogs; it won two of them and gave the champion hell in the 3rd one.
She got 2 legs gone, wounded and hurts all over... and all you can think of is to twist her tail. I can tolerate a little pride from those girls and their parents today.
Tell me Beast, how was your DIGC?

Re: '00 DIGC Prognostication & Predictions
Can Feet beat Solar? Feet has played exceptionally well this tourney, but Solar seems to have had their number. This one will be a battle to the end...
How good is WCFC? We should have our answer v. DTX soon. I saw them play up close and I think that if DTX can beat them they definitely will have earned a finals birth.
Should be some excellent soccer. I wish I could be there.
Happy Easter all! It has been a fun experience.

Solar Chelsea ECNL vs World Class. Can Solar repeat as Dallas International Champs? It should be a classic final
