I'll give you a pass because you are an Englishman but in basketball winning by 20 points is pretty much demolishing a team...The Spain game was the gold medal game and you would expect it to be a little closer considering the team consisted of several NBA players...The 2012 team had an average margin of victory of almost 40 points and was the second highest scoring Olympic team ever (yes I Googled it haha)

I get you are trying to make a point but that is just not factual...on another note if a team has a coach that has no idea what he is doing and has to play without its two best players this is kinda what you end up with. ..
You mean like the 2004 Dream Team? or should I say "nightmare" team?
A collection of individual stars that couldn't play as a team...

Germany Brazil Game Today? - Page 2 Empty Re: Germany Brazil Game Today?

I think Wolf was taking some liberties with the American Language and being to general with the USA Basketball analogy, I accept his point that repetition and team work is the corner stone leading to top results in team sports. for Soccer Fan:

“The Nightmare Team” – 2004 Olympics – Bronze Medalists – Roster – Coach Larry Brown

USA Basketball teams have been dubbed Dream Teams since 1992, but the worst edition of the six Olympic teams since then has been forever deemed “The Nightmare Team.” Lets establish this right off the bat: Being the worst Dream Team is still pretty damn good, and talent wise this was still an imposing team. But they flat out embarrassed themselves at the Greek 04′ Olympics. Allen Iverson led the team in scoring while shooting 37% from the field!!! On a USA Olympic team!! Guys routinely shoot in the 60-70% range because of the easy buckets, but Iverson’s ball-hoggery is just one of the many telling stats from this team. The Nightmare Team also sported such superstars as Stephon Marbury (42% from the field), Richard Jefferson (32% from the field), and Emeka Okafor (0%). Dwayne Wade, LeBron James, and Carmelo Anthony were on this team, but all were young and struggled. The team finished with a 5-3 record in the Olympic games. This is by far the worst and most embarrassing professional Olympic team ever fielded by the U.S. They are the only team to not win the gold medal.

More recently, the NBA champions SPURs showed what Team versus Stars can result in. If you look into the whole Spurs training and philsophy, so much can be learned, they have taken the business dictum of good to great and applied it to basketball, thru repetition, repetition, and more repetition. Disclaimer 2013 Championship was lost by the Spurs, not won by the Heat. But I am Spurs Homer!

130-5 record and winning the gold 14 out of 17 possible tries does not equal to often getting out shown...that actually is pretty close to complete dominance....and I agree with a good team over stars will prevail thing to a certain extent but let's not act like the spurs roster was just a bunch of bottom dwellers that decided to play a team game and they were able to make it happen against all odds

10 years ago we could say our basketball relying on stars vs team was an issue...largely down to coaching. U.S. basketball solved this by getting coach K. The days of us blowing out every nation by 50 are over...basketball is probably the only American sport truly becoming global, and our B league players go overseas to play in international pro leagues.

Regarding Brazil, the irony is they have been trending towards structured academies, identifying their youth early and putting them in pressurized situations. It looks to me like the verdict is in. Neymar aside, Brazil is only producing world class defenders these days.

The Scolari "let's copy europe" camp were re-given the reigns because he won it in 2002, but that team had at least 4 legit world class creative players that were of the classic Brazilian quality, and not born of these academies.

Let Europe be Europe. You are Brazil. I don't want to watch the Selecao and feel like I'm watching stoke city or fulham.
