North Texas Rule Change / NTSSA Might See the End Releases
July 10-12, 2015
The proposed rule will allow players to register anywhere they wish in North Texas without having to get a release. It is high time players and coaches get the best customer service and soccer experience possible.

Currently, a rec player must register with and play in the local soccer association where she resides, unless the local grants a release. The rule change would allow a rec player to register and play in ANY association she desires. For instance, a player residing in Garland could play rec in Plano without getting permission from GSA.

Exactly! Garland Recreational Soccer is imploding. Richardson, Wylie and Chamber Classic will no longer play interleague with Garland. Lake Highlands and the few teams from Rowlett and Rockwall that remained this past spring may not come back. Plano apparently would not invite Garland to play out there as many of the Garland coaches would love to do. Plano has also stated to a Garland coach that they are tired of signing releases for David Arciniega of Garland, when Garland doesn't reciprocate.upper95 wrote:The headline piqued my attention until reading the proposition. This topic concerns releases from recreational associations, not competitive teams.

Garland was one of the largest associations, but has been rapidly shrinking under the current leadership. Major league has all but disappeared. Garland usually sees a good increase in teams and players from fall to spring. This past soccer year Garland went from 234 teams in the fall to 207 in the spring and many coaches want out. The mismanagement and infighting on the board is taking its toll.
The A & D process in Garland is completely broken due to president David Arciniega, so that is driving coaches out and will keep teams from coming to play in Garland:

US Youth Soccer is also investigating Garland:

Coaches who take teams select get harassed in Garland. Those who practice with clubs are getting harassed. Garland is so desperate to retain teams that they are alienating the talented coaches in the upper age groups.
The Garland Soccer coaches and players deserve the best. This rule will up the customer service and create healthy competition that will only benefit everyone. It is time to open up North Texas!

Number of players registered with an association = number of votes an association gets on new NTSSA bylaws and NTSSA bylaw changes. Why would a struggling association, especially one that borders on an association with more/better facilities and players, vote to allow players to choose?
I love proposed Rule 4.3 - "A member Association may not actively recruit players from outside of their defined territory".

Now, they need to eliminate the academy release form. The whole concept is un-American.

ASA (Allen) just sent me a notice the academy registration went down to $30 for the year... at least they made it cheaper this year!

Heather,
The rules passed at the 2015 NTSSA AGM will be updated on the website as soon as possible.
If you have other questions, please direct them to Carlos Quinones, NTSSA Rules Committee Chairman. I have copied him on this response.
Thank you,
Chris Kotschi

I suppose we will have to hurry up and wait. I will watch for them to be published.

Does anyone know if the price was capped or was Allen just feeling generous?

Deuce wrote:So this would seem to mean NTSSA Academy forms could be signed by any member association, not necessarily the one where you live.
Am I interpreting that accurately?
Yes, this is correct. I confirmed with CFBSA today and have already had one of the parents on my team register with another association. Happy days
