This may work out as intended, but our experience has been different. Every year, the "target" roster size is less than the maximum number. But every year, one or two more players show up just before signing day, and the roster is maxed out.
I am curious if the coaches who are saying they will cap roster at 15-16 actually do that after all the signing is complete or was it just something said during tryouts to give parents the warm fuzzies. Keep us posted on that RWD.

What about those parents who call, text or email a coach who is across town multiple times with intentions of coming out to an open practice, extolling the virtues of their kid, but never show up only to then "commit" to a team right in their own area? Why not honor the expressed intention? Why do the okey-doke?
I love the wheeler dealer parents who want to buddy up with every coach they can find. It does not matter what part of town they are in, that parent wants to make sure the coach knows that his/her DD is available and in return, wants the DD to feel wanted by each and every coach. And then the okey-doke, that parent has no intention of driving across town to join that team, just loves thinking that they are being "recruited."

Midfield is where the short, slow, pre-pubescent kids go. Right now every team needs a couple of big fast kids that can kick the ball far. No skills required or taught in some cases.

Hi Sho, I think many teams feel if they have a Hope Solo and a couple of defenders along with speed of light forwards the mid-field is just there for show.

When the coach says they like to play through the midfield, they really mean ALL THE WAY THROUGH.

We must be thinking about the same parent(s)..lol Now could be that said parent knows in their gut that if they did honor the expressed intention(s) that they'd find out that DD is really not all that wanted..

Pretty good description of the approach.
And what does the USWNT have none of, other than the possibly the youngest player on the team?

Heck why bother to even waste time to go ALL THE WAY THROUGH when you can just go OVER THE TOP. It's called direct play, you know.

I consider it a player that affects the result, often times swinging the result.

Good luck finding that player 3 days before signing. Luckily my team is posting open sessions daily until tryouts. So I'm pretty sure we will find someone else's bench player who will be our new "Impact Player".
