why did they set this up in La? That heat and humidity could be dangerous for the players who are not acclimated to it

It rotates through the states in region III. Last year it was here in Texas. Players from most states in Region III should not have so many problems if they are well hydrated and conditioned. If so, it still happens.

Next year wont be any less hot or humid.

It was a game that neither team deserved to lose, but in the end one had to. Hats off to Lonestars on the victory, and good luck to them and Sting moving forward. Both are, IMO, easily the class of the remaining teams. If there's one thing this tournament (and Nike) has proved to me, it's that North Texas (and Lonestars) can play with any team in the country.
I have to concur look at the final teams left:
96 Sting
95 Sting
Solar Red 94
Feet 93
Sting 92

Tend to agree - but this is a fairly typical year.

What strikes grundle is the relative absence of the most powerful soccer club in the free world.
Yuklite, where the hell are all of the Texans teams?

Please do explain, grundle can hardly wait for this!!!

I can't speak for the other age groups (maybe not even for this one) but 96 Texans had a nice go at Regionals. No goals allowed in 4 games and a PK loss (Gunners' favorite deciding measure) to a great team in the semis is nothing to be disappointed about.

However, looking at the list of finalists It looks like Sting has bragging rights this year.

Great showing for all of the NTX 96 teams....OK, OK Lonestars too. Good luck to both teams for what should be an awesome final tomorrow. You'll be great reps at Nationals.

Day 7 - Semi-Finals: Okay.....that was intense. I typically don't get that excited about kid's soccer, but this was an emotionally charged environment from the start. The overall game was a little sloppy as both teams played like prize-fighters waiting for an opening. Thought that we were the better team (65-35 or so), but did not have a lot to show for it in the first half. We posted one and missed on three consecutive corners, but then broke through within the first 5 mins. of the second half. We missed three excellent scoring opportunities in the second half and then East Lake pulled out all of the stops in an effort to tie. Several key plays by defensive personnel and a missed cannon shot by East Lake's best player led to the 1-0 Final. Tomorrow will be exciting, although we have accomplished a ton just to get to the finals (effectively, Elite Eight of the 96 age group). Lonestars will be a tough match, but the winner will deserve the trip to Overland Park. Good luck to both teams!

I noticed the NTX boys weren't as fortunate, they only advanced one team (Andromeda 91 Navy).

96-Regionals - Page 3 Empty Boys Side at Regionals--different story

Post by dumbdad9596 23/06/10, 03:59 pm

The boys side is a completely different affair because the US Soccer Development Academy U15/U16 and U17/U18 teams suck away the top talent from the boys club teams that play in US Youth Soccer State Cup/Regionals/Nationals. That is the top boys teams at Solar, Texans, FCD, and Andromeda and similar clubs throughout the country don't participate in the boys side of State Cup. Locally FCD has the top teams.

The US Youth Soccer Championship for boys just doesn't have the same meaning that it did prior to US Soccer forming the Development Academy Leagues. I am guessing that the ECNL (and the US Youth Soccer's National League) was formed as a partial response to what was happening on the boys side. With the girls, not all the top clubs agreed to join the ECNL, but this next year the list of quality holdouts will be much smaller.

http://www.ussoccer.com/Teams/Development-Academy/Academy-Overview.aspx

Congrats to all the NTX girls teams! Way to go and good luck at Nationals!

96-Regionals - Page 3 Empty Re: 96-Regionals

Post by Suddenimpact 23/06/10, 09:59 pm

Day 8 - Finals (Sting vs. Lonestars): Just got home and in front of my computer. Was quite the long day, starting early with the game and then battling the traffic and weather on the way back to Dallas. Horrific crash on I-20 for those that arrived around the time we did. We actually got through before they closed the highway. Other teammate families were not so fortunate (Hope all were okay, did not look good). On to the game....
Lonestars 96 are a very good side with an ample amount of talent. It was a hotly contested match with Sting scoring two goals in the first, one with less than a minute to halftime, and Lonestars knocking on the door on many ocassions in the 2nd half. I think that we saw a record number of yellow cards in the match (including my kid), which I am not sure I should attribute to the reffing or the pent up emotion. Editorial comment: The Lonestars' girls were very gracious at the awards ceremony and showed a tremendous amount of class, as did the coach and the parents. I hope we did the same. The Lonestars scored just prior to the waterbreak and had at least three other good opportunities prior to the whistle being blown. I want to think that we were the better team, and maybe we were today, but not by much. Could have gone either way with the right breaks. Texas showed tremendously well during this week with 5 of the 6 National finalist coming from Texas. The outlier is AFC Lightning out of GA in the 92 bracket.
Final comment....this Cinderalla ending could have been played out by Feet, Texans, Solar or Solar Red if the chips fell differently. The point being that North Texas remains beyond competitive on the regional (and national level) and as much as it drives us crazy, it just makes us individualy and collectively stronger.

Your team's players, coaches, & parents were gracious winners from what I saw SI. You have a great bunch of girls. Oh, I did hear from our girls that there was a funny incident in the Nationals sign up tent after the Semi-Final games where some (don't know how many) of the Sting 96 girls growled and made tiger paw swipes at our girls when they went by. They just thought it was funny and didn't take it seriously. That tent smelt horrible after some of the teams took off their shin guards and shoes in there. 96-Regionals - Page 3 Icon_silent

That Victoria duo on your team have some strong & accurate legs too. I was glad to see our girls still playing hard to get back in the game and tie it up, but it was just not going to happen. That goalie of yours had a great block on that upper 90% shot she knocked over the bar. I thought that was going to tie it up for sure.

Now that our season is over my Daughter can finally work on getting the lower half of her legs tan. It looks like she is wearing white socks when she isn't wearing any. 96-Regionals - Page 3 Icon_smile

So can the NTX player transfer rumors in the other forum topics begin now with Regionals over, or do we have to wait till Sting wins Nationals now?
