Re: Powerade Fab 50 Rankings
Texas: 1. McKinney Boyd (16-1-2), 2. Marcus (19-2-1), 3. Mansfield (15-1-4), 4. Plano West (13-2-4), 5. Ursuline Academy (22-2-0*), 6. Klein Oak (18-0-1), 7. Fossil Ridge (12-4-1), 8. Coppell (15-3-4), 9. Southlake Carroll (20-2-1), 10. Rowlett (15-1-3), 11. Kingwood (18-2-2), 12. Grapevine (17-2-3), 13. Westlake (14-3-4), 14. Cy-Fair (14-1-2), 15. Flower Mound (15-2-2), 16. Fort Worth Country Day (16-1-1*), 17. Wakeland (17-0-2), 18. St. Agnes (22-2-2*), 19. Denton Ryan (17-1-0), 20. Fort Bend Clements (13-1-2).
Fossil Ridge finally getting some love. I think SLC is too low but that is ok. Flower Mound also is still not getting much love.
I also see that ESPN has already crowned the CA #1 team Aliso Niguel #1 in the country. I guess it does not matter what Texas does.
"Top-ranked Los Osos carries a 25-0-3 ranking into this meeting while No. 2 Aliso Niguel is 22-1-4, having avenged its lone defeat in the Southern Section final. The winner of this showdown will bring the POWERADE FAB 50 No. 1 ranking back to California for the first time since 2008 when Wilson (Long Beach, Calif.) was the last of four straight California champs"

UPDATED Texas Top 20 - Week of March 12th
Boyd takes the top spot despite not even holding first place in their own district. However, as mentioned on another thread, Boyd seems to have a relatively easy path to the District 2 title (Only Rowlett from their own district appears to stand in their way).
Sorry, but in my opinion, Mansfield, Coppell and even Boyd are all somewhat overrated at their current rankings. Especially when those rankings are largely based on beating/tying each other.
Ursuline has a very good team, but just because they only lost to Marcus and Plano West doesn't make them a top 5 team in the state imo. I think most of the top 15 on this list would have beaten them if given the chance and as such wouldn't expect them to be ranked any higher than #10 (if being generous).
Klein Oak appears underrated based on an undefeated season-to-date. Seems to be the case for many of the other south-Texas programs as well (don't go to sleep on Cy-Fair, Memorial, Cinco Ranch, Kingwood, Fort Bend Austin or Clements).
I also still fear the collective talent on both Carroll and Plano West and think they could get hot at any time despite their rankings and results...

Re: Powerade Fab 50 Rankings
Even further confirmation that National #1 was wrapped up from after the fact (FROM ESPNHS)..."All Locked Up: Aliso Niguel (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) put together a dramatic second-half rally for a 3-2 victory over Los Osos (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) to win the Southern California Regional Division I title and secure the No. 1 ranking in the POWERADE FAB 50 Winter Rankings for the 2011-12 season."u95g dad wrote:I also see that ESPN has already crowned the CA #1 team Aliso Niguel #1 in the country. On the one hand, I guess I don't blame him given all the ties/losses by top teams against other high-quality talent in North Texas, but it does seem a bit premature to say that none of the top teams in Texas will ever be as good as the top team in Southern California...

I can see the CA receiving the top ranking when all the winter season is over but think it is premature to say they are the #1 team for the 2011-2012 season. Lets say Boyd or Klein run the table (using them because of 1 or 0 losses)that should compare favorably with Aliso's record of 23-1-4. Of course, I am not that familiar with their schedule and maybe they had alot of top 25 teams. Their one loss was to the previous #1 so that is a "good" loss but I am not sure about their 4 ties.
From reviewing the rankings it does not appear a team is punished for a "bad" tie.

Clearly, this situation calls for a national championship game.

But the polls will have the CA schools #1 & #2, so CA still wins.

Re: Powerade Fab 50 Rankings
You know Kenshi... I was going to say that on my last post, but then took another look. It's possible that it is decided before then. Maybe, maybe not. It will certainly be decided for those two teams on the 23rd, but that may not be the ball game for district. 3 games left to play. Any one of them could be a spoiler for any of the top 4. I suspect that Marcus has the easier road to the finish than the other 3. 2 points does not leave any room for error. Gonna be interesting.Kenshi Dave wrote:Loco ... I guess we will know for sure on March 23.
The team who wins out, will be the team to take home the district. That's my prediction.

I don't much about these high school rankings and such; so the others include opinions, speculations, etc as a weighable value to whereas this ranking list only compares win, loss, and draws based on their schedules given.

It has come to my attention that people don't understand the All 5A 4A PR at the top of the rankings are to filter the rankings by group. If you want to only see 5A schools ranked, then click on that link. You will only ever see the 5A rankings until you click on one of the other links.socrocks wrote:Loco's rankings (sportsmobility) are really more of a list....sorted by order of win %.

New ESPNHS Texas Rankings - March 26
Texas: 1. McKinney Boyd (19-1-2), 2. Marcus (21-2-1), 3. Mansfield (17-1-5), 4. Flower Mound (17-2-2), 5. Plano West (14-3-4), 6. Ursuline Academy (22-2-0*), 7. Klein Oak (20-0-1), 8. Fossil Ridge (14-4-1), 9. Coppell (17-3-4), 10. Southlake Carroll (22-2-1), 11. Rowlett (17-2-3), 12. Kingwood (20-2-2), 13. Grapevine (19-2-3), 14. Westlake (16-3-4), 15. Cy-Fair (16-1-2), 16. Only change appears to be big movement for Flower Mound from 15 to 4 based on win over Plano West. All others stayed the same, just got bumped down a spot after 4. Playoffs are going to be VERY interesting and very competitive. Good luck to all the girls in the last week of the season!

I am surprised Plano West did not drop further after a 2-0 loss to Flower Mound. Also, what is Mansfield doing ranked so high? I know they beat Coppell earlier in the season but they are 5 points behind Midlothian who is not even ranked (probably should be based on this).
I think they rely on the head to head too much instead of the total record (ex. Midlothian/Mansfield). Also, they dont seem to punish a team enough for a "bad" tie.
Oh well, playoffs should be exciting. It is too bad the 7-5A and 8-5A teams have to meet in the first round. Some really good teams will be going home early.
Good luck to all and hope everybody makes it through the playoffs with no major injuries.

Re: Powerade Fab 50 Rankings
I still dont know the 7-5A tiebreaker. One of the coaches thought it may just be a coin flip. That would be too bad for Carroll as I would think they would have just about any tiebreaker that would come into play.
I think a tie by Guyer will be all they need to advance and give Ridge the title.
It the teams tie are they considered co-champions and the tiebreaker is only for seeding?

Not so fast, Carroll has to do it part or it is all for naught. Dont you know Guyer is going to be pumped up with nothing to lose. I am hopefull that Carroll will be ready to play. Probaby a few Keller girls there to encourage Carroll. Maybe Ridge will have a good showing in support of Guyer. Should be a playoff atmosphere.
