Re: Powerade Fab 50 Rankings
Does anyone know how the tie breaker is decided? Is it goal differential or coin flip? Or some other way?

I am going to answer my own question. In 7-5A, the tie breaker is head to head, then goal differential between teams, the last tie breaker being a playoff game or coin flip. Both coaches have to agree to the last.
Assuming a Carroll win Thursday at Guyer, that leaves Fossil Ridge and Carroll even with record and goal differential. Which leaves it up to the coaches to decide between a coin flip and a game. The game would be Saturday.
What would you rather do?

I'd rather not have my fortunes decided by a coin flip for sure.

Below is what we were told...
Tie Breaker Rules:
1. Head to head competition
2. Goal differential in district between the two teams
3. Goals scored overall in district (max 3 per game)
4. Goals allowed in district (max 3 per game)
5. Overall goal differential in district play
6. Coin flip

Which district is this for? This would look like a fair tiebreaker.
In the Carroll/Ridge scenario, if both teams end up tied I would not do an extra game. Both teams will have made the playoffs and it would be too bad to get somebody injured just to determine seeding.

District 4-5A, but wouldn't it be the same for all?

I believe this is exactly waht happend in 6-5A last year it was decided with a coin flip Grapevine lost the flip and played the runnner up bracket.

It's not the same for all. They vote on it at the beginning of every 2 year cycle. District 7-5A voted to go with what I previously cited. If Carroll wins in Thursday it will come down to a playoff game or coin toss.

I believe Unc's understanding is goal differential in head to head only. It is too bad for Carroll that 7-5A doesn't use similiar tiebreaker as 4-5A. I believe Carroll would win just about any other tiebreaker.
Of course, there will not be a tie if Carroll doesn't beat Guyer tomorrow in Denton. I expect Guyer to play their butts off and give Carroll all they can handle. Keller showed what happened when you are playing for the chance at post season. Plus, the game is at Guyer so that will make it even tougher.
In addition to the Keller and Ridge girls being there, might there be a few coaches from 8-5A there as well?

isnt guyer already in(guyer 6-5-2, keller 5-5-4)? if so, what would they have to play for? they appear to be locked into 4th (based on dallas news).

DMN doesn't have Guyer's last loss against Fossil Ridge in their standings. Guyer needs to win or tie to beat out Keller for the last spot.

As Unc has said, all games aren't complete; however, Loco has posted a link to the bracket with seedings that are complete on the top-right on the home page of www.sportsmobility.netbadcramp wrote:where can you go to see a plyoff bracket and overall schedule?
In addition to those games he is showing, Mansfield Timberview will play Grapevine in the first round and Mansfield Legacy will play LD Bell given last night's results.

Re: Powerade Fab 50 Rankings
Actually, DMN has Guyer right, but is off re. Keller. They have Keller at a tie in last meeting with Saginaw that was actually a 7-0 victory. Keller is done at 6-5-3 (21 points in normal soccer scoring) while Guyer has one game left and is currently 6-5-2 (20 points). Standings/scores are correct on www.sportsmobility.netUncle Numanga wrote:DMN doesn't have Guyer's last loss against Fossil Ridge in their standings. Stupid because it doesn't consider your 13-0 wins over bad teams this season? Makes perfect sense to me. It takes into effect only your results against the other team that is tied.

Re: Powerade Fab 50 Rankings
I have no dog in this fight, but while head-to-head results are and should always be the first tiebreaker, not having anything else as a backup besides a coin flip (or additional game) is an absolutely stupid rule. I completely agree with Unc, regardless of who it benefits. As the other districts have expressed, head-to-head goal differential would be a very good second tiebreak (still only takes into effect other team with which you're tied)...but goal differential in remainder of district (capped with a max differential per game as described) or something else that is representative...a coin flip is a cheap copout imo...Longing4agame wrote:Uncle Numanga wrote:Kenshi Dave wrote:Unc ... don't you clearly have them on goal differencial in district play?

I thought he said head to head goal differential was the next tie-breaker?? Did I miss something here?
I agree a coin flip is a terrible idea. I like the idea of a tie-breaker game.

It makes sense to compare goal differential to common district opponents.
Besides, Carroll's 13-0 beating of Saginaw was on senior night. Only a few of our underclassmen played more than a handful of minutes.

It doesnt change your status as co district champs just your seed. If both teams make it far enough they will play again.

I think you meant Timberview, not Legacy based on the games you had listed and the district standings to date...Duncanville beat Timberview on the 21st 1-0. That game has now been updated on Loco's site. Key game still missing (nowhere to be found on the world wide web... Duncanville's game at Cedar Hill on 2/28/12). Anyone????John Galt wrote:Ferris wrote:As Unc has said, all games aren't complete; however, Loco has posted a link to the bracket with seedings that are complete on the top-right on the home page of www.sportsmobility.netbadcramp wrote:where can you go to see a plyoff bracket and overall schedule?

Based on that result, Duncanville's game against Cedar Hill tomorrow night (3/27)will round out their district schedule and has the chance of knocking Timberview out of the playoffs altogether (if they aren't already based on 2/28 result). Duncanville has tiebreak since they beat Timberview both times 1-0.
