I was wondering who St john was.Thank you for makeing it clear. We have been playing Futsal so it was nice to see our girls(Spirit) back outside. Good game either way.

I am not sure what they feed those Spirit Girls in the off season, but those are some of the tallest 02 girls I have seen...they have at least 3 or 4 girls over 5 feet!

Good game to watch thats for sure. Congrats Spirit..I dont know anything about the other coach (st john) but his player was down hurt for a long time and it took the ref forever to stop the game and coach said something to him about his whistle not working and got kicked out..That old man ref was straight TRASH..Seemed like all the coach was doing was sticking up for his hurt player.That ref missed several calls on both sides. And after the game was over the other team went as a group to hand pound up the refs which i thought was really classy. Me personally if you have kicked our coach out the game i wouldn't have wanted to go up to refs and say thanks. Congrats to both teams of young ladies for going out there and playing good..Gooooo Spirit...

it is something Liverpool teams try to do every game... have the girls thank the refs and then of course the run across the field to thank the best fans on earth... the parents. Yeah, it may have been a trashy ref, but we like to teach the girls to respect the refs and thank them for their time.

As far as the ref teams at this tourney... that older gentleman got a lot of bad reviews from the teams. The other one was a lady that reffed the Dalglish vs St John game. She got it from both coaches. Missed calls all game long. A clearly excellent tackle in the box (all ball and you even heard the thump!) while the girl flopped in the box which awarded them the PK to the countless fouls not called.

The ref team we had today (Beardsley vs Hansen) was great (except for the CLEARLY 10 yards offside call. Very considerate. Saw the injured girl, stopped play, added time to the end of the game (4 minutes). Very good.

Good job Spirit. Now on to the Legacy Freedom Cup!

Good thing the Center Ref was paying attention, because the linesman on the parents sideline must have been bored with the game as he was texting during game play...

That needs to be reported to the tournament director, who will pass it on the the referee assignor.

TX Spirit got A LOT better btw Friday night and Sunday afternoon. Rangel pretty much handled them on Fri nite even though it was only 1-0. But Sunday in the final TX Spirit played harder, and were first to a majority of 50/50 balls. I think Spirit only had 3 shots on net--but 2 of them ended up in the net--so there you have it.

Agree with other posters who said the Ref really ruined what was a good game. He was an equal opportunity awful ref. Spirit shoud've had 1 PK on an obvious cross check in the box. And Liverpool probably shoulda had 2 PK's on a handball and a tackle in the box--including the one that got Rangel sent to the showers. I think, while it let his girls down, he needed to step up for his team on a couple strange no calls.

Anyway, congrats to TX Spirit. They have a lot of length, play real hard, and are pretty hard to score on due to a very stout back line. The rematch Friday should be standing room only on the sidelines :-)

We checked out a couple games to see how the teams were. Trying to figure out if we keep our daughter where she is OR move her to a different team. We liked Spirit and were impressed with St John until the last two games. Like one poster said, if it weren't for the PK goal vs. Liverpool 02 Dalglish they would have lost and I believe would not have played Spirit - I believe Liverpool 02 Dalglish would have been in the finals.

Then I thought Spirit handled St John really well and Spirit, who as we said were impressed with, definitely deserved that game. Congrats to SPIRIT for winning that tournament and to St John for being a finalist.

Very unsportsmanlike. What does that teach the girls. What the coach did was right. He was looking out for his players. For their safety. I think these refs forget they are reffing 10 year old girls. They need to be taught how to play the game now.

Most referees don't understand that part. They think that the coaches and parents are the only ones teaching our girls the game. Referees need to understand that they teach the rules of the game through their officiating. In a tournament last summer there was a girl on the opposing team that pushed girls down from behind with her elbow probably 8 times. She also played a little bit dirty. Someone had definitely taught her some tricks. After the game I spoke to the referees about blowing the whistle more and to give out cards when they are needed. That is the only way the players can learn what is ok and what is not ok. The head referee told me that they are instructed to let the girls play and to not give out cards to these young girls because it may make them quit the game. I told him the ones that are going to quit are the ones being fouled, not the ones fouling.

Needless to say, the girl I mentioned above, in her next game, was red carded for purposely kicking a girl in the face when she was on the ground. Maybe if she had been booked in her first game, she wouldn't have kicked that poor girl in the face in her second game.

What coach? Dalglish or St John? I didn't see the referee ask anyone to leave but saw the Dalglish discussing the call with the Ref after the call and (is it) Rangel (?) talking to the Refs after the game.

It was during the finals.

I saw this too (parents cheering) Im sure it wasnt all of them but for thise that did it didnt show much class.

WOW! We missed that. So was it St Johns team that cheered or Spirits team?

Spirits parents cheered when coach was asked to leave the field.
